LOCATION: Palo Alto with travel to Kauai and Lake Tahoe (candidates must be based in Palo Alto and accommodations will be provided when traveling outside of Palo Alto)
JOB DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced math teacher with a passion for teaching advanced math to young, accelerated learners. This role focuses on providing individualized instruction to young children who are academically advanced (grades 4 to 8 with instruction through algebra II). The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of math and wishes to share the knowledge with young learners in an intimate, student-paced environment. Our ideal candidate must be based in Palo Alto and be willing to travel 20-30% of the school year.
GOAL: Our goal at Aspen Learning Lab is to inspire students to love learning through hands-on activities, curiosity, and positive reinforcement while meeting social, emotional, and academic milestones. We are looking for creative teachers who are passionate about math and learning and want to share that passion with young learners. We are looking for teachers who are able to create engaging lesson plans based on each student’s needs, pivot when necessary, problem solve, and think critically!
PAY: Highly competitive, 6-figure salary DOE
Responsibilities
Advanced Math Instruction
- Deliver personalized, high-level math instruction to young students transitioning out of the traditional Montessori math curriculum.
- Teach advanced topics (algebra, geometry, pre-calculus) in a developmentally appropriate manner for late elementary and middle school aged children.
- Ability to pull from various math curricula to ensure a balanced and engaging approach. Curriculum design experience is welcome, as this role provides freedom for innovation.
- Preferred but not required: ability to design and teach middle school science curricula.
Individualized Lessons within Existing Classroom Framework
- Work 1:1 with students to tailor lessons to their unique academic strengths and social-emotional needs.
- Collaborate with Montessori teachers to align advanced math lessons with ongoing classroom projects and learning themes.
- Maintain an atmosphere of active, joyful learning that supports emotional and intellectual development.
Support for Young Learners
- Balance the academic needs of accelerated learners with their emotional maturity, employing patience, creativity, and empathy.
- Foster independence, curiosity, and a love of learning in students.
Communication and Collaboration
- Work closely with the Montessori teaching team to ensure a cohesive educational experience.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and strategies for continued growth.
Professional Development
- Stay informed on best practices in math education for young learners.
- Participate in professional development opportunities that align with the school philosophy and the needs of accelerated students.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced mathematics, including high school and college-level topics.
- Minimum of five years teaching experience, preferably with accelerated learners
- Proven ability to adapt advanced math concepts for younger learners.
- Passion for working with young children who are academically advanced.
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team
- Flexibility, creativity, and a joy for fostering deep intellectual engagement in students.
- Familiarity with Singapore Math, and Exeter Math curriculums (preferred)
- Teaching credential (preferred)
Additional Requirements
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Utilize informal and formal assessments to monitor and assess student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly
- Provide weekly updates on student’s progress
- Comfortable leading with creative ideas, lesson planning, and curriculum
- Willingness to travel approximately 20-30% of the school year with approximately 9 weeks off each year
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and reliability.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
