Supervisor, Operations (HAC)

Who We Are:

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from. Since 1979, we’ve been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners – including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers. We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

About the Role:

The Hunger Action Center Supervisor, Operations will engage in creating a world class experience for more than 25,000 people who volunteer annually at the Food Bank. The successful individual in this position serves as a working supervisor; they will supervise and participate in the work of Volunteer Group Leaders to ensure we are providing exemplary customer service to the Food Bank volunteers, while helping the HAC achieve production goals through highly efficient processes.

The position will supervise and work alongside a team of Volunteer Group Leaders and warehouse associates in acquiring, processing and sorting 6 million pounds plus of salvage product and building close to 200,000 mixed boxes of various food products each year. The Supervisor, Operations will also assist in overseeing the daily work of our Reclamation Center (RRC), through which we process and evaluate donated product from select retail donors, and our Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), through which we provide food boxes to seniors in need.

They will be responsible for supervising the HAC team, overseeing daily work completion, filling in for and helping Volunteer Group Leaders on a regular basis, and supporting members of the team in growing and developing the skills necessary for enhancing the volunteer experience. The HAC Group Lead Supervisor supervises an overall staff of 8-10 employees and reports to the Manager of the HAC.

What You’ll Do:

Supports Team:

• Supervise staff leading volunteer shifts and participate in volunteer engagement and sorting activities as needed.

• Collaborate with the HAC Manager on departmental process improvement.

• Assist the HAC Manager in interviewing, hiring and with personnel actions for HAC staff.

• Provide coaching from personal observation and volunteer feedback to ensure that Volunteer Group Leaders are providing a world class volunteer experience.

Volunteer Relations:

• Ensure the appreciation of volunteers.

• Maintain quality control over product being sorted by answering volunteer questions, inspecting product throughout the sorting process, and ensuring all products are accurately coded and stored properly.

• Assist in ensuring information shared with volunteers is current and meaningful.

• Additional responsibilities include greeting, training and overseeing volunteer production.

Operations and Warehousing:

• Open and close Facility, as necessary.

• Oversee and participate in the setup and maintenance of areas and equipment used for sorting salvage.

• Maintain accurate reports which include: Floor inventory, inspection/sanitation checklists, dump reports, temperature records, equipment logs, etc.

• Oversee staff and volunteer adherence to safety standards and maintain the safety of the food supply chain and other compliance initiatives.

• Ensure proper rotation of product utilizing “First In, First Out” (FIFO) principles.

• Inventory control to include receipting, validation, routine cycle counts and reconciliation processes.
