We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Lactation Consultant to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of breastfeeding mothers and infants to identify needs and challenges.
- Provide individualized lactation education and support to mothers, including techniques for effective breastfeeding and addressing concerns such as latch issues or milk supply.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop care plans that promote successful breastfeeding practices.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of patient interactions in systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks.
- Educate staff and families on the importance of breastfeeding and provide training sessions as needed.
- Stay updated on current research, guidelines, and best practices in lactation consulting and infant nutrition.
- Assist with specimen collection processing when necessary, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Support patients with ostomy care as required, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of related physiological needs.
Experience
- Certification as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is required.
- Experience working in a teaching hospital or pediatric setting is preferred.
- Proficiency in medical imaging and knowledge of physiology related to lactation is advantageous.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks is beneficial.
- Skills in phlebotomizing may be considered an asset for this role.
