What are the responsibilities and job description for the Irrigation Technician position at Augusta National Golf Club?
Essential Functions of the Job
- Inspects, repairs, and maintains all SubAir, irrigation, Hydronics systems, fans and lighting systems, turf guard sensors, and their components.
- Performs manual inspections of irrigation system/pump-house water usage reports and reviews findings against automated data.
- Ensures appropriate functionality of pond aerators and other systems relating to the upkeep and presentation of all bodies of water throughout the property including but not limited to daily inspections and debris removal, chemical treatments as needed and monthly testing.
- Communicates all systems performance irregularities to the Senior Manager, Irrigation.
- Provides management with technical analysis of agronomics and course playability, and how they relate to the current state of all the irrigation systems.
- Ensures adequate inventory for all irrigation, SubAir, Hydronics, and pump-house systems parts and related supplies.
- Assists staff and contractors with locating current underground systems related utilities, piping, and communication conduit.
- Schedules irrigation, SubAir, and Hydronics systems operation in coordination with the Assistants, and/or Superintendent.
- Cleans and maintains safe and orderly irrigation parts room and pump house stations in conjunction with maintaining appropriate inventories of repair parts in these spaces.
- Assists in maintaining irrigation and SubAir as-built mapping through GPS and land surveying.
- Makes recommendations and cost analysis on construction projects and equipment purchases that pertain to systems installations or renovations.
- Communicates with Facilities Engineering and the respective contractors regarding the Hydronics system quarterly maintenance inspections and keeps full record and documentation of these inspections.

Physical Demands
- Constantly required to use arms, hands, and fingers, to handle or lift items up to 50 pounds and/or drive a golf cart.
- Constantly required to stand, walk, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms.
- Use vision to perform an activity such as but not limited to: preparing and analyzing data and figures, visual inspection involving property maintenance, hazards and safety violations, and/or operation of machines (including inspection).

- Proposes improvement ideas to enhance work environment, operations, efficiency, and/or streamline work processes to the Senior Manager, Irrigation.
- Reports unsafe conditions and situations to the golf course leadership team in a timely manner.
- Performs all other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job.
Qualifications:
Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:
- Ability to troubleshoot low voltage electrical systems preferred
- Knowledge of irrigation control panels and computer systems, SubAir control panels, and Toro Lynx and SitePro software preferred
- Ability to operate basic landscape equipment
- Effective communication skills
- Must be highly organized and have sound time management
- Ability to work with accuracy and utilize effective judgment under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented work environment
- High attention for detail
Relative Experience/Education:
- 0-2 years irrigation repair and maintenance in a golf, landscape
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Required License(s):
- Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program
Projected Work Schedule:
Normal work hours are 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the needs of the business.
