PRIMARY PURPOSE : The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is the executive responsible for overseeing the operational, and information security strategies of Ave Maria University. This role drives cutting-edge information security practices to ensure the safety and resilience of the organization's assets, employees, and data. CISO collaborates with senior leadership to develop a unified security vision and strategy that aligns business objectives while mitigating risks across all departments at the University.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Strategic Leadership :
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, integrated security strategy.
- Establish a formal enterprise risk management and cybersecurity program that regularly involves the President, and Cabinet as appropriate, with quarterly reporting to the Board of Trustees
- Foster a culture of security awareness and accountability across the organization.

EDUCATION :
Bachelor's degree in information technology, cybersecurity, criminal justice, or a related field.
A master's degree in Cybersecurity or the equivalent is desired.
EXPERIENCE :
10 years of progressive experience in cyber-security leadership roles.
3 years' experience with developing and leading enterprise governance, risk and compliance management.
Demonstrated experience developing and executing enterprise-wide security strategies.
CERTIFICATION : Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CPP, or equivalent will be considered as an alternative.

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear in order to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS : Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with minimal safety hazards. The role requires a combination of seated, standing, and active movement work. While work is primarily conducted outdoors, occasional time will be spent indoors. Exposure to inclement weather, wildlife, and occasional safety hazards should be expected.
