Avenu Insights & Analytics is Hiring a Senior Systems Engineer (Hybrid) Near Fairfield, CA

Job Summary:

Avenu Insights is looking for a senior System Systems Engineer with excellent Microsoft Azure skills and experience who will act as a technical lead for the Sysadmin team and contribute to an environment of continual improvement. The chosen candidate will act as a subject matter expert for several technical domains and be responsible for leading projects, as well as day to day maintenance and operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as a subject matter expert while partnering with internal customers and working on projects. Focus on continuous improvement and efficiency while reviewing processes and enable team to share ideas and suggestions regarding continuous improvement. Ensures stable performance and availability of platforms through monitoring and tuning.

  • Act as a liaison between vendors, internal and 3rd party technical support personnel and stakeholders, and partner agencies to resolve problems; ensure the timely resolution of problems and continue to remain current with industry trends and standards.
  • Serve as an escalation point for any level support requests, including enterprise-wide major incidents.
  • Plan and implement upgrades or enhancements to assigned production technology domains.
  • Administer backups including the design, draft, and implementation of standards and procedures.
  • Monitor performance and resource consumption; make recommendations on capacity planning and budgeting; and prepare and deliver reports and statistics.
  • Create specifications, documentation, troubleshooting guides, and standard operating procedures for assigned production technology domains. 
  • Create, update, and audit physical, logical, and virtual designs, drawings, and documentation.
  • Coach and instruct less experienced team members to improve operational metrics.
  • After hours support will be required, with on-call duties approximately one week per quarter.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent senior-level work experience, AND certifications in Azure or transferable technologies.
  • 5 years’ experience in systems administration role in a fast paced, high-volume environment with demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional service while meeting operational metrics.
  • Experience with problem solving and working on process issues, including the automation of solutions through scripting and other process automation tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with Azure IaaS, PaaS and SaaS offerings and technologies and related tools such as Sentinel, Purview and AVD.
  • Experience planning, designing, and setting up Azure subscriptions, resource groups, virtual networks, gateways, storage accounts and capacity pools, log analytics workspaces, Azure key vaults, and configuring policies for resource compliance and consistency, as well as monitoring and alerting for the above resources. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including briefing executive-level staff on major incident and project status.
  • Experience coaching and instructing technical skills and knowledge.

Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship skills, especially the ability to articulate advanced technical topics and build consensus among business and technical constituents

Work Environment:

This position requires staff to be able to maintain an on-site presence (when safe to enter the workplace) so a local recruitment and/or commitment to relocate will be required. The remote working incentive may be offered at manager’s discretion, allowing for an intermittent work schedule and is contingent upon work performance and business need.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for most of the day
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office
  • May be required to assist with rack/ un-rack of heavy storage/compute hardware, lifting up to 80 pounds, to top or bottom of 6’ server rack.
  • Position requires frequently communicating via telephone, video conference, chat, etc..
