What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant - (Birds and Exotic Pets) Full Time position at Avian and Exotic Pet Clinic of Roanoke?
Our growing bird and exotic pet Veterinary Clinic is seeking Veterinary Assistants.
Qualifications:
* Serious applicants must be professional, organized, a team player and able to multitask with composure and professionalism during stressful and/or emergency situations. This is not an entry veterinary clinic position.
* Two year or more Veterinary Assistant in a veterinary clinic/hospital with Leadership experience, AviMark and inventory/stocking experience is required.
* Must have great basic math skills, have the ability to lift 50 lbs. (assisted/without assistance) and be able to stand long periods of time and the means to be in attendance to your scheduled shift.
* Must be willing and able to handle and properly restrain reptiles, birds and other exotic pets, as well as all breeds of felines and canines.
* Must have the ability to ask questions along with great communication and documentation skills, be self-motivated.
* Must be flexible with work hours when changes to schedule is needed.
* Must comply with safety regulations and hospital procedure protocols.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): assisting with exam room appointments, assisting Veterinary Technicians with blood draws, lab work, taking x-rays, administering and preparing patient treatments/medications, recording patient care notes in patient chart, communicate with clients and review take home instructions and/or demonstrate take home patient care, patient nursing and cage upkeep, patient restraint, surgical prep/post-op and assisting in surgery, maintain & clean treatment areas/inpatient and boarding wards, assist with inventory stocking and medical supply preparation.
Hours to include daytime, evening and some weekends - 40 hours per week. 3-day weekends are available to full time Veterinary Assistants.

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
