Job Description Building Educational Assistant

 

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide staff support in an educational environment, with emphasis on providing support to teachers, staff and students. Incumbents assist teachers with all other facets of school activities. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according the needs of the assigned teacher(s).  Perform related work as directed. 

Reports to:  Building Principal

Qualifications

  1. Current Licensure for Educational Assistant
  2. Minimum: High school diploma, (AA or higher preferred)
  3. Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work, and effectively attend to the needs of school age children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Additional hours training preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manages all work in teacher’s work room
  2. Checks and operates all equipment (some maintenance)
  3. Works with and for all teachers
  4. Establishes schedules: materials to be checked out, lounge duty, birthdays
  5. Keeps records of materials being ordered and used in working room
  6. Works in front office while secretaries are out, fills in classrooms when teachers need to be out of their rooms
  7. Is able to run workroom without much supervision
  8. Is able to keep all things confidential
  9. Is prompt and dependable, preparing work for teachers within two days of request
  10. Other duties as assigned

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee must possess and maintain a current driver’s license and take a Defensive Driving course at the District expense if you drive a district owned vehicle.  The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff.

Must possess a New Mexico Educational License

 

Terms of Employment

Appropriate placement on the Salary Schedule and the Aztec School District Calendar.

 

Evaluation

Performance of duties will be evaluated at least annually in accordance with Aztec School Board Policy.

 

Physical Rating Level

This position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes.  “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.  For Physical Requirement Details, contact Aztec Municipal Schools.
