This position is part of DS Baker Advisors, a team of specialists whose goal is to provide comprehensive financial services for all business and high net worth individual clients traversing their wealth journey. DS Baker Advisors takes a client centered approach in meeting their diverse, individualized, and often transforming needs. Should a multi-faceted financial relationship develop, DS Baker Advisors work together to meet the personal, business, investment, planning and legacy needs of the client.

About the Business Advisor’s Role:

As a member of the DS Baker Advisors team, the primary role of the business advisor is to attract new business relationships, evaluate and identify the risks associated with DS Baker Advisor clients or prospects that have a need for credit facilities. The business advisor will retain all clients with a team approach to service, including deposit and cash management activity.

Key Responsibilities:

Expert Responsibilities

  • Execute/set pricing and structuring of business client requests within established guidelines and respond to clients and prospects who are requesting these credit/deposit services.
  • Research and gather information to mitigate/understand the risks associated with the client relationship and submit through appropriate channels to obtain approval. Communication of client request decisions whether approved, modified or declined.
  • Serve as an advisor to the client to communicate and resolve questions about the details of any relevant credit administration issues created through the loan approval process such as decision, structure, pricing, and renewals of those facilities.
  • Manage the on-going credit administration of assigned client relationships, keeping other team members informed of any significant developments.
  • Schedule, coordinate and facilitate team meeting(s) with clients.
  • Work with their credit analyst to identify legacy plan prospects from their existing books of business and then meet with the family advisor to discuss calling strategy.
  • Build their advisor knowledge by being actively involved in training related to business succession, legacy plans, and building value in a business.

Development Responsibilities:

  • Actively prospect and participate in client retention calls and efforts to increase existing revenue, cement the relationship, build new revenue, and obtain appropriate referrals.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with team members and other “centers of Influence.”
  • Identify and engage clients in business succession discussions.
  • Educate clients about services that would assist them in building value in their business.
  • Maintain the required continuing education credits necessary for their position.
  • Participate in community activities for business development and for a healthier community.
  • Business development: Meet or exceed annual sales and retention goals as established by management.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Embraces the team advisory approach. Is proactive to build and maintain positive relationships internally and cross-departmentally.
  • Team with a family advisor in the early stages of their prospecting efforts.
  • Promote team calling activity, build trust amongst team members, and timely document all client activity and contact.
  • Attend pre-planning and strategy meetings with the DS Baker advisors and their support staff to begin the process of identifying cross sale opportunities.
  • Educate other team members by involving them in their business client meetings.
  • Proactively seek out information, resources, and expertise of internal and external subject matter experts, based on client needs.
  • Assure all team members are fully informed of all client interactions by documenting all client interactions and data using the customer relationship management software and processes available.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field. Two to four years in client-facing or sales role, where a primary responsibility was client retention and growth of client relationship, preferably in banking, finance or accounting environment. Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities to do the job. This could include: experience as a lender, managing banking relations, advising clients on business risks, cash management, referrals to partners and/or teams.

  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office. Demonstrated ability to efficiently learn new programs and to proficiently use and interpret data provided by software tools.
  • Seeks out and participates in ongoing education to maintain credit proficiency and mitigate the risks of credit facilities.

  • Proactive to build and maintain positive relationships internally and cross-departmentally.
