Position Summary
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the sanitation team. The Sanitation Supervisor assures compliance with internal, regulatory, customer and GFSIs requirements. The position is responsible for people and team development to ensure continuous improvement while delivering a clean and sanitary workplace.
Key Accountabilities and Functional Responsibilities
- Select, train and supervise department employees; evaluate performance to assure adherence to performance standards, taking corrective action as required.
- Provides training to sanitation and operations staff on proper cleaning techniques and Bakkavor’s sanitation procedures. Enforces all company policies and procedures.
- Supervises the sanitation inventory of chemicals and tools. Complies with Safety Data Sheet requirements in the handling of chemicals and proper use of PPE ensuring Sanitation team members are trained upon hire and annually thereafter.
- Maintain awareness of employee needs and concerns and take steps necessary to foster a positive and respectful work environment.
- Supervises the proper assignment of day-to-day activities of direct reports.
- Supervises Sanitation Program. Develops sanitation procedures and policies in accord with regulatory and Bakkavor quality systems requirements in coordination with Central Sanitation Superviser.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and reviews Bakkavor’s Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) in coordination with Central Sanitation Manager.
- Reviews and verifies that all assignments are completed and posted on MSS. Prepares reports and documentation relative to sanitation operations, as required.
- Analyzes sanitation data in order to identify trends and continuous improvement opportunities. Maintains sanitation records
- Maintains a systematic procedure for all actions necessary to ensure that the facility is free from conditions that may cause product contamination or adulteration.
- Maintains exceptional level of sanitation in the plant. Performs internal daily, weekly and quarterly inspections and audits and assures that external inspections are conducted to keep the facility compliant with internal, GFSI, FDA, USDA, and other regulatory agency requirements. Ensures proper corrective action is taken, as needed.
- Develops a partnership with quality, operations, and maintenance in order to meet company’s objectives.
- Supports the implementation and execution of Central aligned KPIs and monthly reports.
- Supports the development and management of department budget. Assures that department meets budget goals. Monitors performance of departmental budget and quarterly projections.
- Researches new technology and suppliers of sanitation materials. Responsible for contracting and supervising outside services, as needed under Central Sanitation Manager coordination.
- At the direction of senior management, assist in other technical duties necessary to optimize current sanitation processes.
- Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sanitation Supervisors is responsible for supervising and directing all the functions of all Sanitation department team members.
FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for oversight of their areas of responsibility of the plant’s Food Safety & Quality Management Systems. This position provides oversight and guidance to staff members to ensure the manufacturing of quality food and is responsible for identifying product that does not meet the food safety and quality requirements of the company and preventing its distribution.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Business or other related field with minimum of 5 years’ experience in sanitation and 3 years in the food industry. Must have intermediate knowledge of Quality Systems.
- Demonstrated ability to perform troubleshooting, cause finding and taking corrective actions to address issues in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others
- Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel)
- PCQI Certification, Preferred
- HACCP Certification, Preferred
