Head Lifeguard (Probationary)

Ballston Spa High School has a vacancy for a head lifeguard effective 1/13/25. Job Description: DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This work involves the responsibility for the safety of children and adults who are using the school swimming facilities during school hours. The incumbent shall be at pool side/water side, providing direct supervision of swimming patrons as well as the pool designated areas (ie. Locker room, first aid equipment, and laundry room). Direct supervision is exercised over lifeguards. Receives direct supervision from Athletic Coordinator, or Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Saves lives and administers CPR, as necessary; Maintains order and enforces rules of safe conduct; Assists in opening and closing the pool; Maintains firs aid station and rescue equipment; Assists with development of the goals and objectives of the aquatics program; Assists in training of teaching staff and student lifeguards; Performs routine patrol work, Renders basic first aid; Inspects equipment; Keeps records of attendance; Assists swimming instructor, within parameters determined by lifeguard certification; Supervises other lifeguards.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the techniques of life saving and rescue work as applied to accidents in the water; ability to swim well; ability to deal well with both children and adults; good visual and auditory observation skills, mental alertness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED completion AND Minimum age of 18 years upon appointment, AND two (2) seasons of lifeguard experience, AND possession of an appropriate lifeguard certificate and CPR Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer certificate or its equivalent.

Salary: $20.30/hr.
