School Year: 2024-2025

Reports to:Director of Special Services

Terms of Employment: 240 days/School Psychologist salary schedule

Qualifications: Master’s and/or Educational Specialist’s degree in School Psychology - Valid S.C. Certification as a School Psychologist (or eligible for a South Carolina Educators Certificate in School Psychology). 

Licensed Psycho-Educational Specialist (LPES) – Preferred

School Psychologist:

Job Description: School Psychologist provides a full range of school psychological services to children ages 3-21, including screening and assessment, consulting with teachers and parents regarding remedial educational programs, and works with special education teachers in the implementation of programs to enable students to attain appropriate achievement and adjustment.  Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to determine the student’s eligibility for special services, appropriate programming and on-going progress.

  • Provide individual and group services to children and/or parents that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct.
  • Screen and evaluate referred children including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observations, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and provide for educational program recommendations.
  • Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and the individualized education program (IEP) committee contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on the child’s educational plan.
  • Provide collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting basic education staff with suggestions and implementation of RTI, pre-referral intervention strategies, and providing recommendations and modifications to assist basic education staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the child’s program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
  • Consults with appropriate persons concerning the educational environment and factors affecting students’ learning; serves as a resource at the school level as well as within the community.
  • Consults and/or counsels with students, school staff, and parents regarding academic and/or personal/social needs; provides information regarding community services available to students.
  • Maintains accurate records of all psychological services provided.
  • Maintains clearly written and comprehensive reports and data which provide practical recommendations.
  • Establish and monitor the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school psychologist services to students/staff and work cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the IEP.
  • Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs. Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance therapy services.
  • Supports and implements District policies, regulations, procedures, and administrative directives; demonstrates loyalty to the District and other administrators.
  • Supports and follows the policies and procedures of the school district served.
  • Assists with the development and provision of in-service programs
  • Submits records, reports and assignments promptly and efficiently.
  • Demonstrates ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of his/her duties.
  • Maintains a liaison with the community and state organizations
  • Attend workshops/seminars/professional meetings to remain informed of new developments and literature in school psychology
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintains certification at the state and/or national level; assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services
