Responsibilities
- Support research projects focused on engineering of microorganisms and fungi to produce industrially relevant molecules and bio-derived high-performance materials
- Development of synthetic genetic circuits and understanding and interfacing with computational biologists for modeling of microbial systems.
- Support research projects focusing on bioprospecting of novel microorganisms, genes and proteins from environmental samples.
- Optimize and develop molecular biology tools with application to a variety of microbiological systems.
- Preparing and presenting technical reports and presentations
- Conduct technical work and produce quality results within budget and schedule.
- Assisting in preparing scientific journal publications and presenting at professional meetings
- Assisting in the development of proposals, marketing plans and identifying business opportunities
- Train, mentor, and lead junior technical staff.
Key Qualifications
- A Ph.D. (or MS and 5 years’ experience or BS and 10 years’ experience) in biological or chemical engineering with experience in synthetic biology, systems biology and metabolic engineering and computational tools.
- Ability to travel, including participating in field work.
- U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment.
- Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory and in the field to perform assigned duties.
- The ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience working on research projects for both governmental and commercial clients.
- Crrent or previously held security clearance.
- Experience with protein purification, ELISA, HPLC, AKTA, and/or sequencing.
- Experience working within laboratory quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO17025, GLP).
- Experience with microfluidics and laboratory automation.

- Proven track record of successfully leading, managing and winning large ($100M ), complex new business captures with Federal clients.
- Existing network of contacts within the HHS, DHA, DoD, and other federal civilian agencies and/or industry partners in the same market, with the ability to leverage network into the capture of qualified business opportunities.
- Knowledge of competitors in the health (life sciences, and health research and analytics) market space and experience in competitive assessment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate verbally and in writing across various levels of internal organizations, from scientists to technicians to the C-Suite.
- Must be willing to travel up to 25% as required
- Master’s Degree or higher, preferably in a business, scientific or health-related discipline
- Experience with Microsoft Client Relationship Management (CRM) tool
