Internship Summary:
The Student Employee – IT Tech will resolve entry-level helpdesk issues, be exposed to daily interactions in a professional environment, and will learn how to problem solve to ensure the institution continues to function while serving the student body.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answers phones for I.T. Department technical support resolving entry-level helpdesk issues.
- Maintains records about current and past jobs/work orders ensuring proper documentation.
- Provides follow-up (customer service) on work orders.
- Checks in all shipments into the I.T. Department and documents in work order tracking system.
- Will assist in the upgrade, setup and migration of PCs.
- Wil assist Technicians with the troubleshoot/analyze PC system problems and exercise resourceful methods to resolve identified problems.
- Will assist with installation of software on client/server systems.
- Attend and participate in meetings and training opportunities required by the position, including Title IX, Drug-Free Workplace, and Safety Training.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Communication and organizational skills.
- Guest service skills.
- Computer application skills to include Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge or ability to learn office equipment such as fax machine, copiers, and printers.
- Respect for the confidentiality of all information received.
- Demonstrated personal integrity, sound judgment, and dependability.
- Professional demeanor while representing BMCC.
Eligibility Criteria:
Student must meet and maintain al eligibility criteria during employment
- Must be an enrolled student at Bay Mills Community College preferably within the Computer Information Systems.
- Must have Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined in BMCC’s Student Handbook:
- Grade Point Average of 2.0 (cumulative)
- Successful completion of 67% of credits attempted at BMCC on a cumulative basis.
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits in the semester the paid internship will be awarded.
- Must have attendance of 70% or higher in all classes.
