SALARY
This position has a base salary range of is $60,000 - $90,000 Annual. This range represents the expected base salary range for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience and time in the role.
Summary
A Commercial Loan Underwriter reviews the existing loan portfolio and new loan opportunities and makes sound recommendations to minimize BCU’s risk. Underwriting responsibilities include annual reviews, renewals, modifications and new loan requests for Commercial Real Estate, Lines of Credit, Term Loans, Auto Loans and Credit Cards.
The Underwriter is responsible for monitoring changes and trends in business performance, assessing adequate collateral, and identifying and appropriately assigning risk ratings to loans which will allow portfolio monitoring to avoid losses. Additionally, the position will interact with internal and external members to provide exceptional member experience.

Role and Responsibilities
- Analyze and prepare complete loan request presentation that recognizes relevant risks and mitigating factors associated with each credit request. This includes analysis of financial information, tax returns, financial statements, appraisals, environmental reports and PCAs.
- Work closely with our Commercial Loan Officer for successful and timely completion of new loan requests.
- Be able to evaluate credit reports, read and spread financial statements, understand basic industry credit ratios.
- Be experienced in deal structure, collateral, and documentation.
- Back up and support other Underwriter(s).
- Review loan documents for new loans, modifications, and renewals.
- Apply credit union procedures and policies and make recommendations for improvement.
- Monitor loan renewals and ensure timely completion of annual reviews and renewals in compliance with loan policy guidelines.
- Perform site visits as needed per loan policy guidelines.
- Communicate trends and deterioration in financial performance to management and assign appropriate risk ratings.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all loan-related regulations.
- Other responsibilities and tasks as assigned by manager.
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in finance, business, or related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in a CRE, C & I or small business lending space.
- Formal credit training and/or experience as a commercial credit analyst.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills.
- High level of analytical skill to evaluate financial needs, analyze and solve for complex problems. Should be able to make sound recommendations.
- Ability to understand and interpret financial statements.
- Familiarity with current lending regulations.
- Ability to work in an organized manner while handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Orientation toward action and driving for results.
- Pays close attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Limited travel 0%-5%.
