GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under broad supervision the position performs sub-journey level mechanic’s tasks; and under direct supervision performs journey level mechanic’s duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs cyclic preventive maintenance inspection, lube and servicing of all district vehicles.
- Makes minor engine and chasses repairs, and reports all major defects to the immediate supervisor.
- Assists journey level mechanics in performance of major repairs.
- Services, changes and repairs tires.
- Assists in cleaning and organizing of the shop and other vehicle maintenance facilities.
- Attends meetings and training for professional development.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
- Performs all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies, District and legal requirements.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
- Reports to Night Lead Mechanic/Fleet Maintenance Supervisor
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or GED equivalent and vocational automotive mechanic training certificate. Practical experience in the automotive or heavy-duty vehicle mechanical industry may be substituted for vocational mechanical training.
Licenses/Special Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Washington State CDL Class “B” endorsement with air brake restrictions removed and with a passenger and “S” (School Bus) endorsement within 90 days from date of hire.
- Own and maintain automotive mechanical trade tools as determined necessary to safely and efficiently perform commonly assigned tasks.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Mechanics Assistant rate $ 40.43/hour based on negotiated collective bargaining agreement. 40 hours per week for a 260-day annual assignment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. Other benefits include vacation and paid holidays.
