Production Supervisor

The Production Supervisor is responsible for providing direct supervision of the production team by ensuring that the most efficient work steps are being taken to achieve safety, quality, productivity, and cost-effective production of our products.

The Production Supervisor is responsible for identifying bottlenecks, anticipating issues, and re-allocating resources as needed to ensure smooth workflow and consistent quality. This role also ensures the work standards are followed so that the team can identify and solve any quality, process, or logistical problems that occur on a daily basis. This supervisory role is responsible for building a sense of teamwork and ownership through employee training and development. This role also works cross-functionally with manufacturing engineers to lead and support NPI and continuous improvement efforts throughout the department. They develop and support a continuous improvement culture within the team to help the team meet department challenges.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Hire, orient, train and establish performance standards and goals for all department members.
  • Creates a strong team environment that fosters the company culture and strives for continual improvement.
  • Regular performance reviews, time and attendance tracking (vacation approvals and coverage), reward and recognition, disciplinary action and staffing adjustments
  • Coordinate Training of personnel on technical aspects of the job.
  • Demonstrates leadership role in sharing knowledge with shop personnel.
  • Manages the daily work assignments for all operators to ensure production requirements meet performance targets for safety, quality, output, and cost.
  • Review and counsel team members to maximize their performance and ensure they meet their career goals.
  • Maintain the area at a high level of organization utilizing 6S principles.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, customer service, product management, sales, and finance as well as customers and suppliers to exceed customer needs.
  • Continuous improvement deployment within the team; being an innovator of positive change that favorably impacts profitability, inventory turns, on-time delivery, lead-time and quality.
  • Maintain the area at a high level of organization utilizing 6S principles.

Quality

  • Implement, review and audit the implementation of Standard Work in production.
  • Ensures discipline to quality controls and the Quality Management System to provide the highest quality product to the customer.
  • Support high-level product/process quality improvement initiatives.
  • Implement and publish performance measurements necessary to effectively evaluate organizational performance and trends in the total cost of quality.
  • Analyze problems, account for variances, drive for root cause and implement improvement methods and procedures; create, review, and update improvement plans.
  • Balance the work flow to ensure the best and safe use of capacity and staff

Cost

  • Execute/monitor budgets for manufacturing areas and controls spending to targeted levels.
  • Manage labor, quality, and consumable costs
  • Participate in long-term planning and budget preparation.

Delivery

  • Assure that capacity levels are maintained to match demand in the short and long term.
  • Drives programs to continually reduce manufacturing cycle time and maximize inventory turns.
  • Ensures adequate people and equipment capacity is in place to support forecasted build requirements.
  • Ensures adequate indirect staffing to support forecasted build and new product development programs.
  • Manages production control processes and reporting systems while supporting Supply Chain Driven Flow.

Safety and Environmental

  • Ensure that equipment is adequately maintained and safely operated.
  • Ensures that adequate safety and environmental programs are in place to protect employees and minimize company liability.
  • Monitor, analyze and report EHS data for trends and areas of concern.
  • Drive to improve product development, procedures, and techniques striving for risk reductions and cost savings.
  • Assign individuals to equipment or areas based on technical qualifications and capacity
  • Provide training support if schedules require an individual be assigned to a new area.
  • Provide timely technical support to resolve issues in support of meeting production schedule.
  • Follow and enforce all company safety standards/practices

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or other related degree, and 3-4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated Lead and/or Supervisory experience with large teams.
  • Experience working in an assembly or other manufacturing operation, preferably in a Lean environment
  • Experience implementing and supporting continuous improvement and lean activities.
  • Positive attitude and approach.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Drive for results.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to assemblers/operators.
  • Sound decision making and time management skills.
  • Strong understanding of product quality standards & requirements.
  • Basic MS Office computer skills.
  • Willing to learn and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Ability to work through challenging problems using a systematic approach.
  • Strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills.

Working Conditions

  • Working Environment: Office position on the production floor
  • Physical Demands: Lifting up to 25 lbs., sitting and talking on the phone and computer for long periods of time.
  • Travel Requirements: As needed, less than 5% of the time.
