The Tooling Manager reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for overseeing tooling staff and activities related to tooling (i.e. metallurgical lab preparation area, die maintenance/replacement, forging press tooling).
- Lead and supervise a team of tooling technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure a motivated and skilled workforce.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team culture that emphasizes safety, quality, and productivity.
- Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
- Collaborate with the engineering and design teams to develop and optimize forging tooling solutions that enhance efficiency and product quality.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of forging tools and dies, ensuring minimal downtime for Production and maximum operational efficiency.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to prolong the lifespan of tooling equipment.
- Investigate and address any tooling-related issues to maintain product integrity and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor and control costs associated with tooling, striving for cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
- Identify training needs for the tooling team and coordinate skill development programs to enhance overall performance.
- Schedule tooling personnel tasks in alignment with the production schedule
- Determine and implement repair methods
- Collaborate with Sales as needed to provide customer quotes
- Purchase goods and services for the Tooling area; track outstanding orders from vendors
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other suitable engineering field preferred
- A combination of 5-7 years of directly related education, training and/or experience is desired for this position
- Forging background preferred
Required Skills/Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of forging processes and tooling design.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot tooling issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with CAD software and other relevant tools.
- Understand quality as applied to tooling
- Background in trigonometry and plane geometry
- Clear and concise reporting

Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
