The Quality Engineer reports to the Quality Manager and is responsible and is responsible for overseeing the quality of parts produced on the line, devising corrective actions to address quality issues, and conveying information to customers and the larger team. This role involves conducting inspections, analyzing quality data, leading root cause investigations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Quality Engineer works closely with production, engineering, and customer teams to uphold quality standards and resolve any quality-related issues.
- Address quality issues on the line and troubleshoot issues
- Develop and implement quality control processes and inspection methods for forged products.
- Conduct inspections of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Maintain and calibrate inspection tools and equipment to ensure accuracy.
- Investigate non-conformances and customer complaints to identify root causes.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Utilize problem-solving tools such as 8D, fishbone diagrams, and 5-Why analysis.
- Collect and analyze quality data, including defect rates, scrap rates, and process capability indices.
- Prepare and present reports on quality performance metrics to management.
- Identify trends and recommend process improvements based on data analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve forging processes and reduce variability.
- Participate in Kaizen events, lean initiatives, and Six Sigma projects to enhance product quality.
- Ensure that all process changes are documented and validated.
- Ensure adherence to customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain quality documentation, including control plans, FMEAs, and inspection records.
- Prepare and support audits by customers and regulatory bodies.
- Work directly with customers to address quality concerns and ensure satisfaction.
- Conduct supplier audits and work with vendors to resolve quality issues and improve incoming material quality.
- Train operators and staff on quality standards, inspection techniques, and best practices.
- Provide technical support to production teams to enhance quality awareness and accountability.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3 years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in a forging or metalworking environment.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of forging processes, material properties, and heat treatment.
- Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies, including SPC, GD&T, and FMEA.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or AS9100.
- Strong knowledge of forging techniques, materials science, and heat treatment processes.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Certification in quality engineering (CQE) or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
- Experience with nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques such as ultrasonic or magnetic particle inspection.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis tools and software (e.g., Minitab).
Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
