POSITION SUMMARY: To create an environment that supports individual safety and breaks the cycle of domestic violence by providing services that include crisis intervention/short-term counseling/safety planning and domestic violence education.
ACCOUNTABLE AND RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING RESULTS:
- Oversee the process for service inquiries, ensuring the timely delivery of services. Monitor and track progress consistently, providing regular feedback and recommendations for improvements. Implement process changes as needed to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of request for service. Work with Intake Specialist to ensure all clients coming to the HFJC are greeted and assisted in completing all necessary documents and understanding the contents and context of the documents before signing.
- As needed review all available services with clients and link them to partners for scheduled appointments or the selected partners for services.
- As needed provide Crisis Counseling, Safety Planning, and Advocacy to clients.
- Generate required forms, reports, and any other documents used in the intake process.
- Respond in a timely fashion to inquiries and requests from supervisors and partner agencies.
- Provide Narrative and Statistical data related to VOCA, CDBG, and other program grants.
- Organize and facilitate Client Care Plan Meetings.
- Maintain Ongoing relationship with NHPD assigned Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Officer.
- Attends pertinent meetings as requested by the HFJC Site Manager.
- Ensure clients are provided trauma-informed emotional support to help victims understand feelings and behaviors in response to abuse and specific ways to build self-esteem and coping strategies.
- Maintain and enhance professional proficiency by participating in continued education and workshops to enhance skills and understanding of family violence issues.
- Serve as Safety Officer and perform required duties for the Temple Street Office location.
- Communicate all site needs to the Maintenance Department and/or the building landlord when necessary.
- Responsible for monitoring office supplies usage and placing new orders as needed.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, and seminars as requested by supervisor, or as needed for professional development, or as required for accreditation or licensing.
- Required to use own vehicle on company business or to transport clients.
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Perform other assignments and duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Three to five years of advocacy and/or direct service experience working with survivors of domestic violence in a community-based setting is preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) reading, writing and speaking required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the domestic violence counselor certification per CGS 52-146K before providing direct service to clients, followed with six-hour recertification on an annual basis.
