Head Band Director

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Band Director to lead the overall instrumental music and marching band program for the Brookhaven School District. The Director will provide students with opportunities to participate in extracurricular band activities, ensure compliance with all state and district requirements, and oversee program implementation that ensures compliance with educational standards and promotes a culture of excellence.

Qualifications

• Valid Mississippi teaching certificate with required endorsement
• A minimum of a masters degree in music/music education
• A minimum of three years prior job experience in teaching instrumental music in an educational setting
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in managing teams or programs
• Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities - Such duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to, the following:

• Meets all professional conduct standards as set by MS Educator Code of Ethics Standards of Conduct
• Promote the district’s vision, mission, and goals
• Directs instrumental performers in marching band
• Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in band
• Provides for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, and parades
• Arranges transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events
• Complies with federal and state laws, MHSAA rules, and school board policy
• Supports band booster club activities
• Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students
• Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
• Applies and enforces student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, appropriate student handbook, and band code of conduct regulations
• Accompanies and supervises students on all out-of-town trips
• Prepares and administers a budget for overall band program in coordination with the Director of Finance
• Follow all board policies and procedures
• Maintain regular attendance and is punctual
