About the Role:
The Big Sandy Area Development District is seeking a dynamic Business Development Specialist (BDS) to provide hands-on, in-person support to local entrepreneurs and small business owners. Based in our office at 110 Resource Court, Prestonsburg, KY, the BDS will play a critical role in driving business growth across the region. This role requires extensive travel throughout Johnson, Floyd, Magoffin, Martin, and Pike Counties, engaging with business owners face-to-face to understand their challenges and provide tailored solutions. The BDS will attend conferences, workshops, and trainings to stay informed on business practices and market trends, bringing back valuable insights to help local businesses thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel extensively within Johnson, Floyd, Magoffin, Martin, and Pike Counties to meet with business owners and entrepreneurs, providing direct, hands-on support.
- Help local businesses access resources, networking opportunities, and business development services tailored to their specific needs.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and trainings to stay up to date on business trends, market practices, and economic development strategies.
- Work proactively to identify opportunities for business growth, connecting businesses with necessary resources to help them succeed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local entrepreneurs, ensuring ongoing support and development for their businesses.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience or knowledge in small business development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with local business owners.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently within Johnson, Floyd, Magoffin, Martin, and Pike Counties to provide in-person support.
- Self-motivated and proactive in identifying and addressing business challenges and opportunities.
- Ability to attend and participate in industry workshops, conferences, and events to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
- A bachelor’s degree is required; candidates who have an associate's degree combined with other qualifications will be considered.
