Pull up a chair and join us by the hearth! Blizzard is looking for an experienced gameplay engineer to join the Hearthstone engineering team. As a senior gameplay engineer on Hearthstone, you will work with designers and other engineers to create the amazing content we deliver to our millions of players on a regular basis. You will engineer zany new cards and mechanics, engaging systems, and have a formative role in the exciting future we’re planning for the most well-established digital CCG in the world. You will also mentor earlier-career engineers in solving complex challenges and building strong habits for supporting a long-running live game.

This role is a hybrid work position, with some work required to be on-site and some work-from-home. The home studio is Irvine, CA.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with designers, artists, and other engineers to prototype and build gameplay systems for new cards and their associated mechanics, utilizing C# and C within the Unity environment.
• Manage the intricacies of maintaining and expanding a mature codebase, implementing optimizations, debugging live issues, and consistently delivering new content to players on a regular schedule.
• Review feature requests to assess their feasibility, comprehensiveness in design, and associated risks.
• Bolster the success of fellow team members by offering technical guidance, engaging in code reviews, and providing mentorship to junior team members.
  
  

Requirements

• Substantial expertise in the field of professional game development.
• Strong established skills with C or C# languages.
• Deep experience debugging complex logic.
• High comfort level extending and improving an established code base.
• Dedication to improving all facets of the game and unlocking potential within the team.
• Able to communicate & collaborate effectively with artists, designers, and other engineers.

• Avid Hearthstone player.
• Experience with implementing game logic in a large-scale client/server environment.
• Previous professional experience shipping game titles or other software.
• Database development experience.
• Experience with the Unity platform.
• Experience supporting a live service.
• Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related degree.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $101,000.00 - $186,754.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
