What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Services Associate position at BLOUNT COUNTY?
Under the general supervision of the Hospitality Services Manager, the part-time Food Service Associate is responsible for selling and serving hot and cold food items and merchandise in The Bookmark Café at the Blount County Public Library (BCPL). The Food Service Associate should provide a customer experience that exceeds general customer service standards. This part-time position is 22-hours per week. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare, sell, and serve hot and cold food items to a diverse clientele, including patrons and staff members within established policies and guidelines;
- Ensure food in refrigerators, freezers, and on shelves is stored in accordance with state health standards and cafe guidelines;
- Regularly monitor and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures, immediately report problems or variant observations to designated personnel;
- Responsible for checking in and stocking inventory;
- Perform deep cleaning duties: wipes down and sanitizes all refrigerators and freezers (inside and outside), clean and sanitize food display case and prep areas, stock room shelves, and organize inventory;
- Regularly maintain a clean café, including tables, table service items, service counters, and kitchen equipment according to state health standards and cafe guidelines;
- Restock all paper goods, foods, and coffee throughout the day using the First-In-First-Out (FIFO) method;
- Bake and decorate food items, and provide some catering assistance as needed;
- Generate creative ideas and assists in implementing them to attract customers;
- Take money and make change according to established auditor guidelines;
- Use the point of sale system; and
- Perform other assigned duties as required of a Food Services Associate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
- High School Diploma;
- One (1) year of experience preferred; and
- Valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls; including washing and drying utensils and food prep items. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as standard cafe equipment, computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern public library setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
