Position Summary
Faculty at Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) are responsible for creating a culturally diverse learning environment that employs best practices in teaching and learning through various delivery modes to meet current and future educational needs of the communities served by the College. Faculty bring to their classrooms and committees’ expertise and experience that provides a competency-based interdisciplinary curriculum, utilizes alternative pedagogies and learning technologies, promotes collaborative work skills, contributes to student success, supports the College and community, and contributes to the success of the College in achieving its mission. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
Essential Functions
- BMCC instructors must meet the established teaching requirements that include providing students with a course syllabus for the first class period of each quarter clearly stating all required elements including, but not limited to, learning outcomes, grading processes, attendance requirements, nature of assignments or requirements, and required texts. Instructors are expected to provide regular and substantive feedback to all students, especially in distance education courses.
- Performs curriculum development, and instruction in theory, best practice, and technical skills. Instructors have academic freedom to select learning experiences appropriate for meeting the learning outcomes of the program and accreditation requirements. Faculty should use appropriate use of emerging teaching and learning methodologies, and evaluating student performance and safety in the classroom, skills labs and clinical settings.Assist with routine curriculum review and assessment of the Medical Assisting program to meet the college’s goals and accreditation standards.
- Orients and provides ongoing guidance for Medical Assisting students, clinical teaching associates, and other related to the program goals, learning outcomes, and expected competencies of the students.
- Evaluates student achievement in terms of course and program objectives and assigns grades for courses according to policies.
- Interprets the program goals and learning objectives for the students with the staff of the clinical facilities.
- Participates cooperatively with other Allied Health programs and agencies to develop appropriate and equitable access to practice sites.
- Creates an intellectual environment conducive to critical thinking and significant learning.
- BMCC Faculty continually works to improve instruction by collecting data to assess learning based on course outcomes; use assessment data to make improvements in course curriculum and adopt teaching practices that foster learning for students.
- Maintains currency in discipline and in role of teaching/facilitating learning by exploring best practices, learning theories, trends in community college education, and the use of technology in education.
- Engages in scholarly activities and continuing professional growth in clinical practice and teaching.
- Participate in related statewide committee meetings, BMCC committee meetings, faculty workshops, and academic advising of students.
- Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
- Supports the philosophy, objectives, and mission of Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC), Allied Health, and the Medical Assisting certificate program.
- Provide regularly scheduled and posted office hours for student advisement and course related consultation. Maintain hours of work on campus.
- Advise and mentor students to ensure satisfactory academic progress.
- Strengthens relations and collaborative activities with K-12 (Dual Credit, Eastern Promise) and baccalaureate-granting colleges
- Observe all policies of the Board of Education and/or administration regulations and procedures as they apply to the instructor as a member of the college faculty and as a BMCC employee.
- Maintains sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Other Aspects of this Position
- Requires travel to various clinical sites in the region and to attend meetings/trainings as needed, valid driver’s license is required.
This is a grant funded position funded through June 2026; continuance is dependent on renewed funding.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
- This position requires a demonstration of knowledge and competency in the practice of Medical Assisting, and the ability to provide effective instruction in the field.
- Create and promote a culture of safety in instruction, labs, and clinical experience.
- Must be able to effectively perform individually or as a member of a team.
- Designs, formats, and delivers curriculum for synchronous and asynchronous learning as appropriate.
- Ability to facilitate the success of individuals representing a broad range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Experience as an instructor or trainer in a medical field.

Preferred Education and Experience
- Three (3) years of related experience in health care.
- Experience teaching in a community college.
- Experience with medical office administrative duties.

Salary: Per Faculty contract salary scale
