Overtime Class: Exempt
Compensation: $50,000- $60,000 annually
Location: Hybrid - BGGS has two office spaces - Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary (1305 Germany Rd., Frankfort, KY) and BG Area Development District (699 Perimeter Dr., Lexington, KY). Working from home is also available at times throughout the week.

Overview
Bluegrass Greensource is looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join its staff as a Development Director. This newly created position will help Greensource’s Executive Director develop and expand the organization’s fundraising efforts. This position will be the first in our 23 year history to focus solely on fundraising.
Central to this position is a commitment to Greensource’s vision and long-term goals along with experience and expertise in the development field. The successful candidate will lead the creation and management of a development strategy, and be involved in expanding and solidifying its corporate and individual giving campaigns.
Background
Bluegrass Greensource was formed in 2001 to provide environmental education and resources that equip and empower Central Kentuckians to ensure clean, healthy, and enjoyable environments. In July 2024, BGGS took over management of Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary near Frankfort Kentucky. This opportunity will add capacity to our award winning preK-12 and adult education programming.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
The Development Director is responsible for ensuring that Bluegrass Greensource receives the donated funds necessary to fulfill their mission. Assigned duties include:
- Coordination of all fundraising efforts including direct mail, events, grants, major gifts, sponsorships, and planned giving.
- Annually reviewing past sponsors, donors and donations and developing a plan to increase gifts and donors.
- Working with past donors and sponsors to renew and increase their gifts.
- Manage all activities including donor/sponsor identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition strategies.
- Maintain fundraising plan through research and analysis of regional philanthropy including giving trends.
- Develop a planned giving program including identifying strategies and resources.
- Develop and implement annual giving campaign
- Work with the board’s development committee to identify prospects and engage volunteers and Executive Director in the solicitation process.
- Maintain ongoing relationships and communications with individual, corporate, and foundation partners.
- Build donor and prospect files and maintain data on preferences, deadlines, procedures, and criteria required.
- Maintain a donor database.
- Coordinate all recognition activities.
- Work with Executive Director to create compelling sponsorship packages for potential donors and sponsors
- Shares in workload with staff to complete any job that has priority at the time.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years in development role in a nonprofit organization.
- Successful track record of soliciting gifts, cultivating prospects and donors.
- Successful track record of managing and growing corporate sponsorships.
- College education or the equivalent.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Experience with event planning

Knowledge and experience: Commitment to sustainability; experience working with nonprofits; strong background in development and fundraising; able to work successfully on a team with diverse members.
Personal characteristics: Highly self-motivated; highly creative; commitment to strategic thinking and innovative action; ability to both lead and collaborate effectively; well-organized, attentive to detail, and able to work on multiple projects at once; keen sense of humor!
Technology and software: Strong computer skills and strong knowledge of design, website and donor tracking software.
Communications: Strong writing skills; strong interpersonal communication skills.
Physical: Close vision with or without corrective lenses necessary for computer work; manual dexterity needed to operate computer; ability to perform assigned duties in a time-efficient manner; valid driver’s license.
