DIRECTOR – HEAD OF EMPLOYEE RELATIONS, AMERICAS (JOB NUMBER: HUM000940)

Business Overview:

BNP Paribas is currently seeking a Director - Head of Employee Relations (“ER”), Americas to lead the Human Resources department’s regional Employee Relations team working in our New York and Jersey City offices.

The Head of Employee Relations plays a key leadership role on the Americas platform by providing advice, support, and resolution to territory management and senior business leaders on a broad range of employment issues, including Human Resources policy interpretation, disciplinary performance management, Human Resources investigations, employee discipline and misconduct, and remediation of employment-related disputes. The Head of Employee Relations directly manages a team of four Employee Relations professionals and directs Employee Relations partners in Canada and Latin America in carrying out employee relations activities in those locations.

This role is part of our Human Resources Management Team and provides leadership not only to the Employee Relations team, but also to the Human Resources department as a whole.

  • Physical presence in BNPP’s office(s) is an essential function of this position. Responsibilities:

  • Designs and ensures implementation of the Employee Relations strategic vision for the Americas platform on an annual basis. Acts as a key point of contact for senior leadership for employee relations issues.
  • Oversees - and for the most sensitive matters, conducts - internal investigations into employee allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, threats, violations of Human Resources policies and other employment / legal matters
  • Assists and participates in conducting disciplinary meetings, and preparing warnings and related documentation for the most sensitive employment matters
  • Oversees coordination of reductions-in-force, including working with the business to assess their future needs and structure; works with employment legal counsel to vet decisions and assess legal risk
  • Oversees the reasonable accommodation process
  • Assesses data tracked by the Employee Relations team to monitor and manage employee relations issues and to identify and report to senior management on risks and trends
  • Designs, provides, and/or recommends trainings on a range of employee relations issues designed to mitigate risk.
  • Assists senior management with the execution of compliance programs, internal audits, external audits, and government audits
  • Works with the Human Resources Operations team to review and assist with the ongoing development, evaluation, and maintenance of documentation (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures, Policies) to ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date depiction of processes

The expected starting salary range for this position in New York is between $200,000 to $280,000 annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 8 - 10 years of employee relations and/or employment law experience
  • Experience managing a team and/or leading a function
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience creating and analyzing metrics based trend and statistical reports
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HR experience within a financial services organization
  • J.D.
  • Experienced in managing a team or leading a function
