Job Requirements
Teaches up to 36-40 workload units per academic year. Serves as a professional role model and upholds the values of Bon Secours Mercy Health. Implements the curriculum with effective teaching strategies and evaluation measures. Participates in shared governance and College activities. Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning that promotes professional development in the area of content and clinical expertise, teaching and learning, and evaluation strategies. Meets specific faculty role expectations delineated in the Faculty & Staff Handbook.
For Associate Degree and Diploma programs, all members of the nursing faculty shall hold a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree with a major in nursing.
To teach nursing courses a bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
To teach non-nursing courses a master’s or doctoral degree in the appropriate related field is required.
Two years of teaching experience preferred.
Current license to practice as a registered nurse or in appropriate field in the Commonwealth of VA, as applicable.
Proficiency in basic computer skills to include Word, instructional technology, and clinical practice is required.
Certification in area of clinical expertise or as nurse educator preferred.

- A doctoral degree is required for the ranks of academic associate professor, academic professor, and clinical professor.
