What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Engagement Manager position at Boys & Girls Clubs serving Wake County?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Leads a team of two in capturing and telling our story to the community with the goal of attracting volunteers and donations. Supervises and supports the Marketing Associate. Manages recruitment, onboarding, training and retention of volunteers to support programs and operations. Executes or participates in community engagement events to attract volunteers, build community awareness, engage third-party donors, and directly support Club families. Collaborates with development staff to recruit and retain fundraising and committee volunteers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Recruitment and Retention
1. Forge strong relationships with Club staff and recurring volunteers to meet the needs of each
2. Implement procedures for volunteer recruitment, selection, training and participation in activities throughout Club facilities
3. Identify sources of volunteers and develop proactive strategies to recruit volunteers with the skills needed by Club programs and activities
4. Evaluate volunteer activities and participation, making refinements to ensure a high level of satisfaction by volunteers and staff
5. Manage volunteer-based programs such as:
a. the summer VolunTeens program for the Clubs
b. work-study internships with local colleges and universities
c. the Americorps/Vista volunteers assigned to our organization
6. Develop and implement regular volunteer orientation
7. Train Club staff on effective volunteer management.
Events
1. Plan and execute events to attract and recognize volunteers
2. Plan and execute non-revenue events that benefit Club kids and families and demonstrate our mission to donors and volunteers (ie: Back to School Community Day, Thanksgiving meals, and holiday angel trees)
3. Participate in PR opportunities sponsored by others in the community (ie: volunteer recruitment fairs, Chamber of Commerce events, local festivals, etc.)
4. Support RD event volunteer needs.
Partnership Development
1. Develop collaborative relationships with corporations, community conveners and other organizations supporting volunteerism or serving as potential sources for Club volunteers.
2. Act as liaison with neighborhood and community groups to enhance Club and community relations.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Functions as part of the RD team, reports directly to the VP, Resource Development & Marketing and supervises the Marketing Associate. Maintains close communications with Club directors and staff. Collaborates with the Campaigns and Events Manager to welcome and on-board fundraising volunteers.
External: Fosters strong relationships with volunteers and community entities that support volunteer recruitment goals.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
· Three years’ experience in community outreach or public relations
· Experience managing volunteers
· Prior supervisory experience preferred
· Facility with the Microsoft Office suite
· Strong oral and written communication skills, and good presentation skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all types of people
· Flexible and adaptable work style with ability to manage competing demands
· Ability to work evenings and weekends as events require.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
The Manager will meet regularly with the VP to review progress and resolve challenges. Evaluation may include:
· Number of volunteers on record who have been vetted and trained
· Anecdotal reports from Club staff on the effectiveness of our volunteer program
· Anecdotal reports from volunteers on the quality of their experience
· Number of community engagement events sponsored or attended
· Quality and regularity of our social media presence (at the organization level)
· Quality of our website
· Quality, diversity and scope of stories as presented in newsletters, e-news, social media, annual reports, and promotional materials
· Quality of materials produced to support campaigns and events.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
