Description

BASIC FUNCTION: Perform a variety of duties to maintain the kitchen work areas in a clean, orderly condition in accordance with sanitation guidelines. Responsible for various kitchen cleaning and storage activities including, but not limited to such tasks as washing pots and dishes, general cleaning duties, and storing food and non-food supplies..

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

NOTE: Some descriptions may have more specific duties and/or goals and objectives attached to this form.Such attachments normally reflect unique aspects of specific locations, shifts, departments, etc.

  1. Mop and sweep floors regularly in according with established guidelines using designated equipment and chemicals. Scrub and buff floors using heavy equipment in accordance with established schedules or as otherwise directed. Use appropriate signs to designate areas while cleaning in accordance with safety guidelines and procedures.
  2. Wash kitchen work tables, walls, and meat blocks in accordance with established sanitation guidelines using designated equipment and chemicals; degrease tiled walls as required.
  3. Remove trash, garbage, and other disposable items to designated areas, including trash compactor, as required. Steam clean trash cans to sanitize as required.
  4. Clean and sanitize trash compactor and loading dock as required.
  5. Clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, and shelves where food items are stored. De-scale dish machine using appropriate chemicals as required.
  6. Scrape food from dishes, pots, and pans; wash dishes, pots, pans and other cooking equipment and utensils by hand and/or place them in the dishwashing machine as required; read and set dials on dishwashing machines for correct wash cycles and to ensure that temperatures for all cycles are at required levels; document temperatures in log book.
  7. Distribute china and glassware to their designated locations.
  8. Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas by hand or use of hand-truck as required.
  9. Clean designated equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitation standards are met.
  10. Polish silver as required using a machine as well as hand buffing.
  11. Keep work area clean and sanitary at all times.
  12. Load and unload supply trucks as required. Transport supplies to appropriate storage locations.
  13. Deliver food to satellite locations as required.
  14. Setup banquet tables and assist with banquet food preparation as required.
  15. Detect correct and report situations that have a possibility of causing accidents or injuries to residents or others.
  16. Complete accurate and timely documentation as required.
  17. Maintain compliance with all BPHI policies, procedures and requirements. Maintain compliance with all federal and state laws. Maintain compliance with all agency regulatory guidelines and requirements.
  18. Attend and participate in trainings and staff meetings as required. Provide direction and training to other Porter/Utility Workers as directed by the Sanitation Supervisor.
  19. Work successfully as a part of a team and responsible for developing then maintaining strong working relationships with co-workers.
  20. Perform general office tasks as required.
  21. Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as required.

Qualifications


POSITION EXPERIENCE & ABILITIES:

  1. High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) preferred.
  2. Minimum one year prior related experience in a similar position required.
  3. Requires proficient ability to speak, read and write English; ability to understand business documents which are written in English.
  4. Requires ability to communicate verbally in English with residents, families, visitors, co-workers, and others; ability to make self clearly understood by others in face-to-face interactions.
  5. Requires proficient ability to read, write and understand both business documents that are written in English and verbal instructions given in English.

  7. Requires ability to understand and follow basic written and oral step-by-step instructions.
  8. Requires ability to move food serving and preparation equipment as needed.

  10. Requires ability to stoop, turn, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, handle, stand and walk over 75% of the shift.
  11. Requires ability to safely utilize kitchen equipment; recognize differences in sound generated by each piece of equipment or machinery which may indicate operation problems or safety concerns.
  12. Requires ability to work under close supervision while performing routine, standardized tasks.
  13. Requires ability to perform tasks with due consideration of residents in vicinity and ability to work and cooperate with other employees.
  14. Requires ability to learn basic food serving, cleanliness, and sanitation requirements.
  15. Requires ability to use up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
  16. Requires ability to walk, stand and sit, sometimes for prolonged periods of time.
  17. Requires ability to comply with Patient Rights, all regulatory requirements, and all company policies and procedures as stated now and in the future.
  18. Requires sufficient good health to properly discharge duties. Employees shall not be permitted to work who have infectious disease or skin lesion for the duration of the communicability.
