Job Description for: Credit Recovery and Graduation Coach(es)
Reports to: BHS administrators
Terms of Employment: This is a hourly position requiring an average of 16-20 hours/week, with availability for employment during school vacation weeks.
Position Overview:
The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking highly qualified, motivated and creative teachers who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the Brookline community. Credit Recovery and Graduation Coach(es) support Brookline High School students who have failed one or more classes, potentially impacting grade level transitions and/or graduation. While Coaches focus on academic remediation and work production, a holistic approach that includes family engagement, trauma informed practices, and social & emotional support is also required.
Qualifications
- Experience in diverse classrooms, after-school, camp, and/or residential settings preferred.
- A teaching certificate and or degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
- Flexibility and creativity in relating to students in an after-school setting, while consistently demonstrating strong classroom management skills at the same time.
- Ability to interact effectively with after-school colleagues, school-day staff and administrators, parents, and community partners is required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/guardians, community, and others in the delivery of effective services
- Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, enabling information sharing and the development of trusting relationships with students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
PSB is seeking strong, positive, energetic, and well-organized educators who will make an excellent role model for young people.
- Employ strategies and techniques during instruction to improve student skills (executive functioning, reading, math, written expression, self advocacy, etc.)
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curricular materials in order to meet the individual needs of students.
- Encourage and empower students to achieve academic success.
- Support a small group of students with curricular classes and homework completion.
- Strengthen students' executive functioning skills..
- Identify materials needed for homework completion
