General Function
Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Support and Learning Resources, the Mental Health Coordinator provides short-term counseling services for students in need. The Mental Health Coordinator leads mental health education and supervises a Success Coach / Mental Health Specialist. The Mental Health Coordinator also works with students to develop academic and career plans and assists students with overcoming barriers to their success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilites
- Provide personal counseling to students and initiate referrals to outside professionals and agencies when appropriate
- Maintain and promote use of mental health resources provided by the College and coordinate mental health education and awareness campaigns, workshops, peer support programs, and counseling services that focus on prevention and regulating emotion skills.
- Provide outreach to at-risk students, encouraging participation in coaching appointments and other means of intentional intervention and student support activities
- Advise and register new and current curriculum students during the months of April - August, and serve as a back-up advisor during other months of the year.
- Engage with students using a proactive appreciative advising model to promote success facilitated by the College's online academic alert and planning systems, and update student's record to document interactions
- Encourage student engagement on campus, including student leadership, mentoring, and career exploration opportunities
- Participate in open house, orientation, and other student services activities that may include periodic evening and weekend events
- Participate in college-wide programs, services, and activities that promote the growth of the College
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain knowledge of counseling and academic success trends
- Serve on committees and assist with any other duty as required
