Brunswick Hospital center is Hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Supervisor Near Amityville, NY

Under the guidance and direction of the Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant Director of Nursing, the Nursing Supervisor shall be responsible for the efficient, cost effective and quality driven management (care, personnel and practice) of the Nursing Department. The Nursing Supervisor shall be responsible for providing hospital clinical and administrative supervision to coordinate the delivery of services, as assigned.

The Psychiatric RN Supervisor will provide professional nursing services which include, but are not limited to:

  • Functions as professional nursing leader in accordance with legal, moral and ethical parameters set forth by federal, state and local agencies. Serves as a role model and resource to all members of the healthcare team, for problem identification and resolution.
  • Reviews staffing patterns, checks attendance, and revises daily staffing schedule as necessary. Makes routine checks on staff, timecards, equipment, materials, supplies, etc.
  • Coordinates unit activities on all shifts and as assigned. Delegates clinical and administrative assignments to staff and provides necessary directions in accordance with their educational preparation, applicable licensing laws and regulations and patient requirements.
  • Assesses the work performance of staff and identifies areas that need improvement. Prepares and submits timely reports to the Director of Nursing, and Nurse Managers that reflect unit progress toward projected goals, personnel performance and future plans. Completes and submits to Director of Nursing and/or HR staff performance evaluations.
  • Communicates and interprets goals, objectives, policy, procedures, and standards development/revision to all levels of unit personnel.
  • Trains new hires to make sure that they understand their role.
  • Coordinates own activities and unit needs to ensure completion of assignments.
  • Maintains records of staff member’s participation in unit, area, or department meetings, forwards records for filing annually.
  • Ensures preparation of Nursing Administrative reports that accurately reflect current patient status, unit activity, and unusual/unexpected occurrences in the department and within the hospital.
  • Makes daily patient assessment, observation and interview rounds, reviews documentation, identifies areas not meeting established standards and develops and implements Corrective Action Plans.
  • Identifies, thoroughly investigates, and reports to Director of Nursing, practices which are not in accordance with legal, moral and/or ethical parameters set forth by federal, state and local agencies. Investigates complaints, incidents and QA referrals promptly and thoroughly and documents findings to supervise the care provided in relation to the patient population served (by age, stage of development and diagnosis).
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of The Joint Commission, federal, state and local agency standards and demonstrates same in clinical and administrative actions.
  • Reads and reviews nursing, healthcare administration journals, attends staff development programs, continuing education offerings, and demonstrates current knowledge about new ideas and processes through contributions at meetings, implementation and/or coordination of projects.
  • Completes all mandatory in-service requirements in a timely manner.
  • Attends and participates in Nursing Administration/Quality Improvement meetings.
  • Communicates staff’s ethical concerns to the Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, and/or Ethics Committee in accordance with policy.
  • Adheres to the department’s and hospital’s chain of command when communicating.
  • Participates in standards development.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Professional Nursing Program, BSN.
  • Valid current NYS RN license/registration.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • 3 years’ experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • 3 years’ management/supervisory experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSN
  • Psychiatric RN specialty certification a plus.

You may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.

Background Investigation/Justice Center review:
Prospective appointees will be: 1. Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2. Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and Federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information of the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment, or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3. Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
