The Associate Teacher Program at Brunswick School is a fundamental part of our Pre and Lower Schools. Each year, we welcome approximately eight new associate teachers into this dynamic two-year program. Designed for college graduates aspiring to become elementary school teachers, this program offers hands-on classroom experience while participants pursue master’s level graduate studies.
Position Summary
As an Associate Teacher, you’ll work alongside experienced head teachers from Pre-Kindergarten to Fourth Grade. This role provides invaluable insights into the teaching profession and substantial classroom experience, with a strong emphasis on professional development throughout the program.
Upon successful completion, most participants graduate with a master’s degree and diverse experience, well-equipped for future teaching careers. Our Associate Teachers have successfully secured teaching positions in independent and public schools nationwide across various grade levels.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the head teacher, Associate Teachers will:
- Participate in lesson planning and implementation across all curriculum areas.
- Instruct students and maintain records.
- Share responsibility for classroom management.
- Engage in professional development programs, including faculty meetings and teaching seminars.
- Attend regular supervisory meetings with the head teacher and program director.
- Participate in Brunswick's after-school program, working with children of various ages.

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Highly adaptable, with strong multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional time management, organizational and planning skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the lead teacher and other school staff.
- Deep passion for education and belief in children’s potential.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to work in various positions, including bending, sitting, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and move objects such as books and materials as needed.
- Ability to work in both a traditional climate-controlled office setting and outside in weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold for periods of time.
- Comfort working in varied noise levels, from loud playgrounds to quieter classrooms.
- Ability to manage a diverse range of challenges, deadlines, and interpersonal interactions.
