What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual Supervisor, Healthy Families America position at California Parenting Institute?
The Supervisor’s primary role is to provide ongoing, intensive, professional supervision to the direct service staff delivering the Healthy Families America (HFA) model. This may include either or both of the components of service, family support or family assessment. The supervision should be directed not only toward assuring quality of service provision, but also toward protecting the integrity and respect of the families served. A Master’s degree in family counseling, social work, psychology/sociology, or nursing preferred. Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Hold weekly, two-hour supervision sessions with each staff member.
- Assist the staff to support the families in developing realistic and effective support plans that will develop their capacity to become empowered to meet their (the families) objectives/goals.
- Assist in the selection, orientation and in-service training of staff.
- Conduct record reviews, assist in or maintain the data collection system, implement a quality assurance plan, direct and provide case management and monitor the performance of the Family Support Specialists.
- Ensure consistency with professional ethics, laws and agency policies and procedures with fidelity to the Healthy Families America model.
- Carries a caseload of 3 – 5 families.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Spanish/English Bilingual.
- Master’s degree in family counseling, social work, psychology/sociology, or nursing preferred. Bachelor’s degree with 3 years’ relevant experience or equivalent work experience required.
- Infant mental health endorsement preferred.
- Experience in home visitation with a strong background in primary prevention services.
- Experience with family services that embrace the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision.
- Willingness to engage in building reflective practice (e.g., capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.).
- Experience with reflective practice preferred.
- Experience in providing services to culturally diverse communities/families and the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Experience in community collaborative partnerships.
- Extensive clinical experience in working with multi-problem families.
- Administrative experience in human services programs.
- Interpersonal skills: cooperates and collaborates effectively. Displays a professional demeanor. Promotes a cohesive, team-oriented environment.
- Communications: express ideas clearly, concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing. Practice effective listening skills. Positively represent CPI to clients, employees, and other community providers as well as project stakeholders.
- Time management skills and organization skills.
- Experience with conflict resolution.
- Basic computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Zoom, etc.
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work some weekends and evenings as needed.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of personnel and clients in a diverse community.
- Ability to interact with families and staff with humility, sensitivity, and responsiveness to diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds in the service population.
- Knowledge of maternal-infant health and concepts of child abuse and neglect.
- Should have a solid understanding and experience in managing/motivating staff as well as providing support in stressful working environments.
- Knowledge of parent-infant health and dynamics of child abuse and neglect.
- Knowledge/experience with domestic violence; parenting issues, infant and child development, and parent-child attachment.
BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be fingerprinted and background checked against CA Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and provide two professional references.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift 25 lbs (supplies)
- Prolonged sitting and working on a computer and telephone.
