This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. As another benefit to our employees, we have a 7-hour per day/35-hour work week.

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of the Behavioral Health Manager is to provide support and an overview of grant-funded programs to CRIHB Tribal Health Program (THP) members. The Behavioral Health Manager will work closely with behavioral health staff at CRIHB THP locations to provide training, technical assistance, and guidance on behavioral health programming.

Essential Functions:

  • Network with other professionals, in local, California, federal, and Tribal mental health programs, and with parole and probation personnel, lawyers, judges, district attorneys, teachers, school administrators, psychiatrists, other mental health providers, Tribal TANF programs, ICWA, CPS, etc.
  • Utilizing published clinical standards, regulations, law, ethics, etc., provide training on clinical best practices to THP behavioral health staff.
  • Train THP behavioral health staff to prepare clinical documentation and billing forms according to agency and departmental guidelines.
  • Participate in accreditation and site reviews.
  • Train THP behavioral health staff to assist clients in navigating through other community systems such as schools, courts, and primary care.
  • Along with THP behavioral health staff, advocate for client needs and community benefits as requested by THPs, Tribal Social Services, Alcohol and Drug Treatment Services Departments, etc.
  • Ensure CRIHB behavioral health program staff complete grant deliverables in full, on time, and within budget, including communicating with subcontracting THP and Tribal organization staff.
  • Regularly monitor CRIHB grant budgets and deliverables.
  • Participate in grant and report writing for current and future funding opportunities.
  • Assume the role of Project Director when a grant or funder requires the use of this designation.
  • Support the efforts of the CRIHB Research and Public Health Department.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Maintain a valid, unrestricted Driver’s license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB’s automobile insurance.

2. Position requires occasional overnight travel within CRIHB’s service area.

3. Requires the ability to drive up to 7 hours a day.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related field and two (2) years of related administrative oversight experience in behavioral health programming; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field with five (5) years of related administrative oversight experience in behavioral health programming is required.
  • Preferred possession and maintenance of a California license for Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Psychologist.
  • One (1) year of management/supervisory experience is required.
  • Experience in the assessment of suicide risk, self-injurious behavior, all high-risk behaviors, and case management of high-risk clients preferred.
  • Experience with clients who have been victims of physical and/or psychological trauma, with attention to early intervention preferred.
  • Experience with multi-cultural backgrounds, American Indian in particular, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of oppression, historical trauma, and American Indian grief and loss preferred.
  • Ability to write and communicate effectively, including public speaking, and ability to communicate effectively with parents/guardians, children, peers, and THP community members like staff and Tribal representatives.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and word processing, spreadsheet, database, and training presentation software.

This position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indians in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code, Sections 472 and 473). Applicants claiming Indian Preference must submit Indian verification, certified by Tribe of affiliation or other acceptable documentation of Indian heritage.
