Essential Functions:

- Evaluates the workload and schedules staff to meet the needs of the department and to assure equitable duties and performance effectiveness.
- Responds appropriately and timely to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the medical staff or other departments.
- Assists with the department’s budget for personnel, operating expenses and capital equipment as requested by Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
- Ensures that the facility meets certification, accreditation and/or licensing standards.
- Monitors schedule, payroll and personnel evaluations and ensures all are completed in a timely manner.

- Supervises all drug storage and handling according to regulations.

- Works closely with the medical staff and other department managers in addressing issues as they are related to the services provided to all residents.

- Participates in the development/revision, implementation and communication of policies, guidelines and standards for the department in accordance with the system’s policies.
- Professional Requirements

- Develops and directs orientation programs, in-services and continuing education for the nursing and auxiliary staff in a designated clinical department.
- Develops objectives for each in-service and evaluates presentation and teaching material through staff input and suggestions.
- Participates in emergency management planning, including all phases, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
- Orients new staff members; evaluates skill competencies during his/her orientation and makes recommendations as applicable.
- Serves as OB Coordinator.
- Serves as Stroke Program Coordinator.
- Serves as Trauma Program Manager.
- Works in collaboration with the trauma medical director;
- Organizes the trauma service and system;
- Has day-to-day responsibility for process and performance improvement activities for nursing and ancillary staff and assists the trauma medical director with physicians (not at basic levels);
- Coordinates educational, clinical, research, administration and administrative outreach activities of the trauma program; and
- Is responsible for the trauma registry, data abstraction and submission to the regional trauma registry
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Completes in services and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
- Leads department meetings and records meeting minutes.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
