Essential Functions:

  • Attention to Detail
    • Ensures compliance with patient safety standards in perioperative services, sterile processing and specialty clinic in accordance with regulation entities and professional organizations including, but not limited to: CMS, DHHS, CDC, AORN, IAHCSMM, AAMI, and SGNA
    • Ensures appropriate staffing levels, equipment, and supplies are available for perioperative and specialty clinic services.
    • Ensures departmental compliance with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory and accreditation standards.
    • Ensures the nursing process is the foundation of providing an individualized plan of care for patients undergoing operative or other invasive procedures

    • Serves as a role model in professional behavior, leadership skills, problem-solving ability, coaching guidance, and interpersonal skills.
    • Provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback to perioperative and specialty clinic team members as appropriate.

    • Establishes and maintains effective communication and collaboration with hospital departments and medical staff to resolve problems, establish and implement policies, and coordinate activities within assigned department.

    • Verifies that educational resources are available for perioperative and specialty clinic personnel and holds accountable for compliance with established standards.

    • Knowledge of: AORN, ASPAN, SGNA, IAHCSMM, AAMI standards, CMS regulations, Nurse Practice Act, Patient's Rights, States Consent Law; medical staff by-laws; patient acuity system, hospital fire and safety plan; peri-operative care of surgical patient; specialized equipment; anesthesia agents and their usage and effect on post-operative patients.

    • Oversees all planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; approving/denying time off; counseling, coaching, commendation, disciplinary actions, and terminations; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    • Participates in the hospital’s Quality Improvement plan by gathering, and analyzing data associated with continuous improvement of care and services, and monitoring quality control programs.
    • Monitors quality of care and any problems/concerns that would impede quality care by interacting with patients/families and monitoring care provider’s competency on an ongoing basis.

    • Promotes and adheres to the provisions of the compliance program.
    • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.
    • Complies with all organizational polices regarding ethical business practices.
    • Promotes and adheres to the TVHS core values and Standards of Behavior.
