Primary Purpose:

The role of the Safety Engineer is to provide development and oversight of the health and safety programs based upon HSSE Cameron LNG Guidelines. Develops and maintains good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills that help operations and other functional groups implement those process changes or procedures necessary to comply with the regulations and requirements. Facilitates the writing or writes site safety procedures and helps communicate/train on any changes or additions.  Provides safety support to all departments as needed. The Safety Engineer will report to the Health and Safety Manager.

 

This position will be located in Hackberry, Louisiana. Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) will be required.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Maintains a collaborative Safety Above All mindset with all levels of the organization.

  • Assessing/analyzing potential hazards and risk mitigation through various risk assessment tools.

  • Provide oversight for Industrial Hygiene including hearing conservation, respiratory protection, ventilation, ergonomics and PPE.

  • Assist in investigating workplace incidents and completing root cause analyses to determine appropriate actions and conducting assessments of high hazard processes to reduce risk. 

  • Supports the development, maintenance and periodic reviews of site HSE policies and procedures. 

  • Provide H&S support in the design and installation of new or modified equipment, supports site projects and MOC’s.

  • Supports the site Emergency Response Team.

  • Support site initiatives including Life Critical auditing, behavior-based programs, compliance walks and new program developments.

  • Tracks assigned KPI’s and drives continuous improvement based on leading and lagging indicators.

  • Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the site and processes.

  • Reduces safety costs through the implementation of Best Practices at the site.

  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications:


Education:

  • B.S. in Occupational Health and Safety or relevant degree. MS preferred.

 

 

Experience:

  • Experienced in Health and Safety in industrial setting 

  • Two to four years demonstrated industrial safety engineering experience

 

Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities:

Required:

  • Ability to represent the company in various situations and to other companies/organizations. 

  • Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation.

  • Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications.

  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods.

  • Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes.

  • Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage department responsibilities.

  • Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements.

 

Preferred: 


Safety certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH or CHMM.

Strong MS Word and software platform knowledge/experience. 

  • Skilled in providing thorough, efficient, and effective safety support to individuals at all levels within the organization.

  • Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and regulatory requirements.

 


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, run, sit, kneel, twist, bend, pull, push, carry, lift, reach overhead and drive. Most activities involve movement of either the upper and lower body extremities or both and the joints associated with these areas of the body.
  • Must be able to enter confined spaces.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders that ranges from 4 ft to 200 ft.
  • Must be able to lift equipment needed to perform work.
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment such as safety harness, respirator and other protective equipment as needed to perform job.
  • Must be willing to be on call, work overtime as required and handle emergency response responsibilities.
  • Must be willing to travel for trainings as required.

 

 

DOT Requirements:

The U.S Department of Transportation (DOT) and the company have adopted regulations governing the control of drug use by persons in certain job classifications. This position is subject to the Federal Pipelines Regulation; and is stipulated in the 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 40 that requires drug and alcohol testing and must meet the testing standards.
