Position Summary


The Senior Manager of the Canal Alliance Microenterprise Incubator will lead and

oversee programs designed to support and empower aspiring Latinx entrepreneurs in

launching and growing small businesses. This role focuses on fostering innovation,

providing business development resources, and creating an inclusive environment for

participants to succeed. The Senior Manager will collaborate with stakeholders, manage

day-to-day operations, and deliver measurable outcomes that advance the mission of

the incubator.


Key Responsibilities


1. Program Management:

  • Implement and oversee micro-enterprise program that includes business planning, financial literacy, access to capital, marketing, operational training, and technical assistance with dedicated mentors.
  • Integrate current curriculum offered by partner organizations with additional programming to meet the needs of microenterprise participants.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and adjust strategies to achieve desired outcomes.

2. Entrepreneur Support:

  • Manage recruitment outreach of prospective participants with application and vetting process.
  • Ensure loan readiness and application submissions of program participants.
  • Manage hands-on coaching and mentorship for program participants, both mentors and mentees.
  • Connect entrepreneurs with resources such as funding opportunities,
  • professional networks, sales channels, and industry experts.
  • Facilitate workshops, networking events, and peer-learning sessions.
  • Manage the VITA Tax Prep Volunteer Program (Feb through April each year). Ensure volunteer training and delivery of tax prep  services for our community using IRS-approved tax software.

3. Community Engagement and Partnerships:

  • Build external relationships with local businesses, community leaders, nonprofits, marketplaces, and local government agencies to support program participants.
  • Identify and secure partnerships that enhance the program offerings, such as pro bono professionals to serve as mentors.
  • Manage the CDFI lender(s) relationship who will provide capital to program participants – microloans and grants.
  • Serve as the public face of the micro-enterprise program to promote its mission and attract participants and stakeholders.

4. Operations and Administration:

  • Oversee the incubator’s daily operations, including budgeting, reporting, and maintaining facilities.
  • Track participant (small business owner) progress and program success metrics (defined KPIs), preparing regular reports for leadership and funders.
  • Manage mentor volunteers, external partners and contractors supporting the program.

5. Strategic Development:

  • Develop long-term strategies for program growth and sustainability
  • Research and implement best practices for microenterprise development.
  • Pursue funding opportunities, including grant writing and donor outreach, to sustain and expand the incubator’s programs.

Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, entrepreneurship, economic development, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5-7 years of experience in program management, economic development, or entrepreneurship support.
  • Strong understanding of small business development, including finance, marketing, and operations.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with underrepresented or marginalized communities is a plus.
  • Fluent Spanish and English – spoken and written.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising is highly desirable.


Compensation 

This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits. We offer a competitive salary range from $80k-$90k with a benefits package that includes: 

  • 3 weeks paid vacation per year

Location

This position is fully on-site at our office in San Rafael with occasionally hybrid

opportunities requiring 4 days per week in office, and attendance at quarterly in-person

staff retreats.
