Overview
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Balanced Dog Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping dogs and their owners build lasting, positive relationships using a balanced training approach that incorporates both rewards and appropriate corrections. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, expertise in dog behavior, and the ability to create tailored training plans for dogs of all breeds, ages, and behavioral needs.
Responsibilities
- Training & Behavior Modification:
- Conduct initial consultations to assess dogs’ behavior, temperament, and training needs.
Client Education:
- Work closely with dog owners to educate them on training techniques, tools, and the importance of consistency.
- Provide hands-on demonstrations and clear instructions to ensure owners can continue training at home.
- Offer support and guidance to clients throughout the training process, including follow-ups.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with staff to develop training protocols and share insights.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities to stay updated on best practices in dog training.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate training records and progress notes for each client.
- Assist with scheduling, invoicing, and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Promote company services through workshops, social media content, or community events.
- Design and implement individualized training programs using balanced training techniques.
- Teach basic obedience commands, behavior modification, and advanced skills as required.
- Address behavioral issues such as leash pulling, excessive barking, aggression, separation anxiety, and other challenges.
Qualifications
- Required Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as a dog trainer, preferably with a balanced training approach, with at least two years of experience and references.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with dogs and their owners.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward all dog breeds and temperaments.
- Ability to adapt training methods to suit individual dogs and client needs.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certification through a recognized organization, such as the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP), Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), or similar.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Capable of handling dogs of all sizes and strength levels.
- Willingness to perform physical tasks, such as walking, bending, and lifting equipment or dogs as necessary.
