CDL Driver - Yard Spotter

Overview

Under general supervision, the CDL Driver will perform regularly scheduled transportation runs to move materials. The position requires knowledge of shipping and receiving logistics such as shipping bills, and parcel receipts. The safe movement of hazmat materials is required and the Driver must possess a valid Hazmat Endorsement on their CDL Class A license.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently move trailers within the yard or facility premises.
• Transport trailers to and from loading docks, staging areas, and storage locations.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and safety compliance.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, truck drivers, and other personnel to coordinate trailer movement.
• Follow all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Assist in other tasks as needed, such as loading and unloading trailers or performing minor maintenance on equipment.
• Operate a Yard Spotter Truck to transport trailers safely within designated locations near the loading dock of the warehouse.
• Adhering to all driving regulations (e.g., company, local, state and federal)
• Maintain attention to detail for records, logs and forms, including any forms required by the Department of Transportation (DOT)

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or comparable work experience
• Valid U.S. Driver's License with a clean driving record
• CLass A CDL License required
• Previous driving experience
• Not required but a plus in case employee needs to fill in as dispatcher
• Ability to ensure that quality and production standards are met
• Ability to meet deadlines and understand the time issues involved with package deliveries
• Ability to prioritize and work with co-workers, supervisors and customers
• Ability to resolve customer issues and take responsibility for work performed
• Good customer service skills, professional attitude and appearance a must
• Good communication skills
• Good team player

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Intermittent physical activity required, including bending, reaching and prolonged periods of sitting or standing
• May experience stressful situations
• May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work overtime as required
• Mental qualifications include ability to perform all responsibilities efficiently and effectively
• Ability to perform all customer service requests
• Good organizational skills
