Primary Purpose
- Administer medications under the guidance of the attending physician, nurse, and Director of Nursing.
- Follow the facility’s policies and state requirements related to medication administration.
Responsibilities
1. Administrative Functions
- Comply with facility policies for medication administration.
- Report and document medication errors.
- Participate in facility surveys and complete administrative tasks (forms, reports, etc.).
2. Committee Functions
- Attend care plan meetings and contribute to quality improvement programs related to medication administration.
3. Medication Administration Functions
- Prepare, administer, and document medications accurately.
- Monitor and report residents' reactions to medications.
- Manage medication inventories and handle discontinued medications.
- Be familiar with commonly used medications and medical terminology.
4. Staff Development Functions
- Attend training programs on safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in ongoing education and in-service training sessions.
Working Conditions
- Work involves movement across different areas (drug rooms, residents' rooms).
- Exposure to stressful situations (upset residents, visitors) and possible hazardous materials (infectious waste, chemicals).
- Flexible working hours including weekends, holidays, and emergency call-backs.
Qualifications
- Must have completed a state-approved CMA training program.
- Strong communication skills in English.
