Cape Henry Collegiate is Hiring a Part Time Spanish Teacher Near Virginia Beach, VA

The Cape Henry Collegiate (CHC) Middle/Upper School is a vibrant and caring school community. We seek a Part Time Spanish teacher for our Middle/Upper school student in providing an exemplary educational experience in support of our school mission statement and core values.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of the Division Head and the World Languages Department Chair, the person in this position will be responsible for planning and implementing Spanish lessons for Middle and/or Upper School students at an introductory level. Qualified candidates will be proficient in utilizing a Comprehensible Input and/or TPRS (Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling) model or be willing to be trained in this model. Candidates will also be able to create and provide an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for each student as well as monitor and evaluate academic outcomes. All Cape Henry Collegiate teachers are expected to communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community in a manner that represents the mission and core values of the school. This is a part time position, approximately 3 hours of instruction per day.
POSITION DUTIES

Plan and implement lessons that meet the curricular guidelines for the introductory level Spanish (levels 1 and 2) at either the Middle or Upper School level.

Collaborate with colleagues around best practices according to the Comprehensible Input (CI) model of instruction.

Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.

Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.

Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of Division Head.

Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.

Maintain a safe, positive, and fair classroom environment for all students.

Collaborate with the World Languages Department and the Grade Level team to support both curricular goals as well as the social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of students.

Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Prior knowledge or willingness to be trained in Comprehensible Input (CI)-based strategies and/or TPRS methods to facilitate student language acquisition in the classroom.

Strong Spanish language proficiency allowing for confident, spontaneous interaction in the language. (Proficiency in French would also be of value.)

Ability to plan and implement effective lessons to engage adolescents.

Effective use of formative and summative evaluation to meet the needs of each student.

Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education

Ability to infuse technology into curriculum

Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, students, parents and community

Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from an accredited college or university or a native speaker with a comparable degree in education or teaching experience. Candidates with a Master's Degree and/or the ability to teach French will be given preferential consideration.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
