Essential Functions:

Design Equipment to meet specifications and needs of customer.

  • Conceptualize solutions for customer needs.
  • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or specifications.
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.

Oversee Equipment Production.

  • Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
  • Investigate and test vendors' and competitors' products.
  • Perform personnel functions, such as supervision and training of project team members as necessary.

Support Equipment.

  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.

 Continuously work to improve equipment.

  • Compile data, write reports, and confer with engineers, customers, and other personnel regarding existing and potential engineering projects.
  • Collect plant location data to determine operating efficiency of mechanical equipment.
  • Recommend design modifications to improve machine or system efficiencies.
  • Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related degree), or significant work experience in design engineering
  • 3 years' experience in design preferred

  • Strong mechanical knowledge

  • Ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information

Equipment use and frequency:

  • Steel-toed shoes – constantly
  • Safety glasses – frequently
  • CAD – constantly
  • Microsoft office – constantly
  • Office equipment – frequently

Physical Elements:

  • Constant standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time
  • Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling and climbing
  • Occasional lifting, carrying and/or pushing objects
  • Occasional climbing and crawling
  • Oral and written communication
  • Ability to see within normal parameters and hear within normal range

Environmental Conditions:

This position exists in an indoor manufacturing facility.  The work environment exposes the employee to fumes, odors, mists and dusts.  Position is exposed to loud noises frequently.  Accident hazards can involve heavy equipment falling on the employee, severe cuts and bruises.
