Position Summary
The Groundsperson provides ground support to the Tree Climbing Team. This role will drive the box truck with chipper and assist the climber(s) in the safe management of branches, foliage and general landscape debris. They will send up tools to the climber upon their request, set up traffic cones and signage as directed, and be responsible for keeping the client’s work area clean and organized.

- Responsible for driving company box truck with chipper trailer
- Assist tree crews by working on the ground and handing tools and heavy materials to crew members
- Keep work areas clean and organized; always ensures job site cleanliness
- The groundskeeper will be responsible for assisting the tree climbers in the removal of trees, trimming of branches, and general maintenance of trees and shrubs
- Operate and maintain equipment such as chainsaws, chippers, and stump grinders
- Perform general ground level maintenance of trees and shrubs, including pruning and fertilizing
- Following all safety practices, will set up cones and signage to assure safe distance for any non-workers while project is occurring
- Follow safety procedures in all aspects of the job at all times
- Will communicate with team members and clients
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Competencies
- Ability to work in both a team and individual environments, where communication is constant
- Must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently
- Displays traits of being dependable, punctual and have a strong work ethic
- Detail oriented
- Well known for possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Availability to work a 4/10 schedule (4 days a week, 10 hours a day)
- Desire to work outdoors all shift
Education/Experience/Licenses
- 21 years of age – required
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record – required
- 1 year experience driving long truck trailer rig –required
- DOT Medical Card – required
- CDL - preferred
- Any experience in arbor work – preferred
- Strong commitment to self and team safety - required
- High school diploma or equivalent - preferred
Work Environment
- Work is performed outside most of the time, under varying and extreme weather conditions. Ability to work in environmental conditions which may include direct sunlight for extended periods of time, rain, wind, dust and the high Arizona desert heat where temperatures could get as high as 120 degrees
Physical Requirements
- Heavy work. Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- In this role you will frequently stand, walk, climb or crouch on narrow and/or slippery surfaces; stoop, kneel, bend to pick up or move objects; walk for long distances and on sloped ground and uneven surfaces; move, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles
- Ability to work full shifts outdoors in all types of changing and extreme weather conditions including direct sun, extreme heat including temperatures over 100 degrees for more than one hour at a time, cold, rain and snow
- Must have endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard ten-hour day and in all weather conditions
Travel Required
- No overnight travel but will work Valley-wide in Phoenix during the day
