JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION SUMMARY
As an engineer in this role, you will prepare and manage design packages for industrial manufacturing clients. This key role requires expertise with industrial process piping systems, to include studies, calculations, stress analysis, equipment specs, and subcontractor bid reviews. Familiarity with jacketed piping, hot oil systems, chillers, boilers, air compressors, and B31.3 Piping code is desired. Experience with process piping systems for chemical, nonwovens, food/beverage, and films & fibers manufacturing is preferred.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanical Engineer, Piping and Utility Systems: is responsible for designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting the mechanical aspects of piping systems and utility networks within a facility. These include:
- Sizing and selection of major utility equipment including Chillers, Cooling Towers, Air Compressors, Air Receivers, Boilers, Deaerators and Feed Water Systems.
- Provide input in the Sequence of Operations for the control of Utility Equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of stress analysis for steam and hot oil piping.
- Selection of standard and specialty pipe supports.
- Load calculations for utility systems.
- Execute utility studies concerning the capacities, energy usage and recommendations for existing operating facilities.
- Provide direction and oversight to Piping Designers on new projects.
REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
- Piping designers need proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks, to create detailed drawings and schematics of piping systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as ASME and ANSI codes, is also crucial for ensuring compliance and safety in design projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- In general, performance of the job has the Mechanical Engineer operating from an office location vs a project location so to oversee one or more projects at one time.
- The Mechanical Engineer will be subject to jobsite conditions, and therefore should be able to cope with and withstand these conditions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- BSME and active PE registration is required (SC preferred), as well as 10 years of relevant design experience. Experience with CAESAR II and AutoCAD is preferred.
- Candidates must have professional writing, presentation, and communication skills, and the ability to develop client relationships.
- The ideal candidate will be comfortable leading teams in a multidiscipline design environment, directing designers, and supporting construction and field operations as required.
- This role may require occasional overnight travel to client locations based on project requirements.
