POSITION SUMMARY:

The JROTC Instructor will assist the Principal in providing a positive impact of student learning through enhancing student achievement. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Valid Arizona JROTC Instructor Certificate  
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Card is required
  • Demonstrates organizational ability 
  • Clear and professional communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Must be approved by USMC to instruct

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach the prescribed Military Science Curriculum. 
  • Instruct in military drill. 
  • Counsel students in the JROTC program. 
  • Write and update lesson plans for the JROTC curriculum and other lesson preparation requirements. 
  • Requisition all government furnished equipment (includes uniforms, training aids, books, drill rifles, and organizational equipment). 
  • Arrange for cleaning and tailoring of uniforms. 
  • Survey old and worn uniforms and other government property. 
  • Perform simple preventive maintenance of training aids and devices. 
  • Maintain inventory control of all government furnished equipment/materials, including annual wall-to-wall inventory. 
  • Ensure proper physical security of all government furnished equipment/materials. 
  • Plan extracurricular activities for the JROTC unit, including color/honor guard ceremonies, drill team and rifle team competitive meets, field trips, mini-boot camps, etc. 
  • Prepare periodic reports on program administration and logistics. 
  • Keep current and abreast of new developments and organizations within the military branch. 
  • Assess unit progress to ensure JROTC program objectives are met. 
  • Attend military-sponsored training to keep abreast of current requirements of program management. 
  • Take courses of instruction to improve teaching abilities. 
  • Establish rapport with school counselors and faculty members. 
  • Make annual presentations of the JROTC program to students at feeder schools for the purpose of recruiting new cadets. 
  • Maintain financial accounts of operating budget.
  • Prepare financial vouchers to the military for reimbursement for expenditures to the school, made in support of the JROTC program. 
  • Establish contact with civic groups to obtain recognition and support of the program. 
  • Provide a classroom climate and learning experience that will further the emotional, physical, social, and mental development of the student. 
  • Teach students in large and small groups. 
  • Make effective daily and long-range instructional plans. 
  • Motivate at-risk students and demonstrate sensitivity to various family and cultural patterns in planning classroom activities. 
  • Display a high degree of flexibility and initiative as well as the ability to work effectively within a team. 
  • Work cooperatively with District staff, support personnel, local schools’ staff, and parents to coordinate effective learning for students. 
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and evaluation. 
  • Perform collateral duties normally performed by and rotated among other faculty members, providing such duties do not interfere with the administration and operation of the JROTC program. 
  • Monitor student engagement and assess the accomplishments of students in a timely manner while providing progress reports, as required. 
  • Maintain accurate student participation and attendance records, as required. 
  • Follow all district policies and procedures. 
  • Participate in other job-related meetings, duties, activities, and trainings related to the position. 
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include decisions related to selection, performance appraisal, discipline and salary?recommendations.
  • Build strong and empowered teams by providing direction, delegation, counsel, mentoring and expertise to individual team leads, while retaining overall responsibility and accountability for results.
  • Promote and encourage the development, training and promotion of staff members to assure the perpetuation of a professional and competent workforce.

ABILITY TO: 

 

  • Organize and direct a classroom program, meeting the individual needs of students, implementing the district and school instructional goals and objectives. 
  • Communicate and respond to students and families in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and evaluation. 
  • Plan and coordinate the use of volunteers and other paraprofessionals when appropriate. 
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a desirable learning atmosphere in and out of the classroom. 
  • Emphasize academic goals and foster student assumption of responsibility for academic and associated JROTC work. 
  • Establish and maintain consistent and challenging expectations for student learning. 
  • Model and reinforce skills for work and study habits.
  • Adapt lesson plans to meet the different learning needs of students. 
  • Establish effective rapport with cadets. 
  • Motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education in accordance with each cadet’s ability. 
  • Maintain consistent, reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with federal, state, and local standards. 
  • Perform duties and responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner. 
  • Safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form in a virtual setting. 
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 
  • Serve as a model and source of encouragement for students in developing self- control and sense of responsibility. 
  • Work independently with little direction. 

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:  

  • Speaking to exchange information and make presentations with understandable voice and speech patterns. 
  • Hearing with or without use of hearing aid(s) sufficient to hear any conversation with others. 
  • Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate office, classroom and/or teaching equipment. 
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching, climb and/or balance. 
  • Eyesight corrected or uncorrected sufficient to read a variety of materials including but not limited to fine print. 
  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and must regularly lift 10-15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 20-40 pounds. 
  • Regularly work both indoors and outdoors.

Occasional travel may be required for site visits, meetings, trainings and/or conferences. Locations may vary and may require overnight stays.
