Description

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Great Lakes/Maintenance

DATE DEVELOPED: 07/2023

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager

POSITION SCOPE

This position performs a wide variety of diversified installation, repair maintenance and service operations on all plant machinery, equipment, and facilities.  Diagnoses and corrects difficulties found in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic operation of equipment.  Assist other maintenance personnel as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs mechanical operations to install, maintain and repair die cast machines, furnaces, compressors, trim presses, machine tools and other equipment.
  • Diagnoses and corrects difficulties encountered in electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical operation of equipment.
  • Installs, adjusts, repairs, and replaces electrical equipment and controls including PLC equipment.
  • Inspects machines and equipment and prepares reports following standard procedures.
  • Welds and operates forklift as required.
  • Maintains necessary records and reports.
  • Assists other maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Wastewater management including monitoring and clean-up.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and service operations throughout the plant, office, and ground areas.
  • Process specific training form if applicable.
  • Be at work on time with the desire to perform well.
  • Maintain and update all related forms and documents.
  • Always communicate problems with the Maintenance Manager and Shift Supervisor/Production Manager on pertinent issues.
  • Complies with all company employment policies, procedures/processes, and programs. Performs duties in compliance quality, safety, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Build positive relationships and work cooperatively with associates in a team environment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Models and exemplifies Companies Core Values.
  • Works required schedule based on business demands.
  • Other duties as assigned from time-to-time.

CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, and WORK EXPERIENCE:


REQUIRED:

  • Experience in blueprint, schematic, and diagram reading for electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Reading, writing and basic shop math.
  • Experience or training in use of testing equipment.
  • Experience in proper use of tools.
  • Valid forklift license.
  • Valid Crane license.
  • Valid Aerial license.
  • Valid Lock Out Tag Out License.
  • Basic hydraulic and welding experience.

PREFERRED:

  • Schneider Ecostructure software experience.
  • 3-5 Years of Maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Experience with Allen Bradley SLC-500 and Compact Logix and Control Logix.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
  • Die Cast Maintenance experience.

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Please note: Continuously (80%-100%), Frequently (21%-79%), Occasionally (up to 20%)

  • Possess good physical stamina and coordination. Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to continuously and repetitively:
    • Promptly detect and respond to visual and auditory safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
    • Wear personal protective equipment on plant floor, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and steel-toed safety shoes.
    • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).
    • Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
    • Able to visually see close, distant, and in color. Able to adjust eye focus to bring an object into sharp focus when needed. Able to utilize peripheral vision and depth perception.
    • Bend, push, pull, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work.
    • Utilize hand positioning and fingers to handle, grip, grasp, feel, and other repetitive hand motion to perform work and use a wide range of tools or other equipment.
    • Lift or carry materials weight up to 35 pounds.
  • Frequently and repetitively:
    • Climb, balance and crawl to perform work.
    • Orally communicate to others and ability to receive detailed oral communication and information.
  • Occasionally
    • Periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 50lbs.
    • Operate machinery, power tools, motor vehicles, and/or heavy equipment if required.
  • Recognizes potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical, and explosive hazards.
