Description
The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing instruments used to measure and control various process variables such as temperature, pressure, flow, and level. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that all systems run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Install and set up instrumentation systems including sensors, transmitters, and controllers.
- Ensure proper wiring, calibration, and connection to control systems, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
- Perform routine calibration and adjustment of instruments to maintain optimal performance and accurate measurements.
- Test and verify system accuracy and make necessary corrections.
- Diagnose and repair faults or malfunctions in instrumentation equipment and control systems.
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and calibrators to troubleshoot issues.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including calibration, repairs, and inspections.
- Prepare detailed reports for management on system performance, issues, and resolutions.
- Ensure all documentation is in compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Job Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in Industrial setting.
- The job requires some mental agility. Be able to analyze relevant electrical systems and use deductive reasoning to figure out what part of the system is causing it to malfunction.
- Possess manual dexterity as a fair portion of the job involves using hand tools.
- Analytical Skills to make sense of test results. Analyze the data from the routine maintenance efforts to try and identify potential malfunctions. Then use analytical skills post-repair to deduce whether the repair completely fixed the problem.
- Attention to Detail: There is very little room for error when making repairs. The Maintenance Electrician has to have a steady hand and extreme attention to detail in order to work on electrical systems.
- Critical Thinking Skills: It takes critical thinking skills to be able to look at the results of a maintenance test and figure out whether or not there’s a problem. It also takes critical thinking skills to come up with solutions to the problems the Maintenance Electrician will face on a daily basis.
- Written and Verbal Communication Skills: The Maintenance Electrician calls upon their written communication skills to document tests and repairs in each machine’s maintenance log. They must have good verbal communication skills to coordinate with their coworkers and delegate tasks to other maintenance staff.
- Competency with Power Hand Tools: Using power hand tools is a big part of the repair process for Maintenance Electricians. Must be able to use drills, saws, solders and related tools safely and efficiently.
